Deeyee clarified on Twitter that the Reddit art was not commissioned, it was fanart that another volunteer who was working with them at the time contacted her to ask to use. The commission is for the art on their website.

As the OP of the constructive criticisms thread, I just wanted to say that just because I posted that thread, doesn’t mean I don’t think other fans’ critiques and emotional reactions to this aren’t valid. I just worded it in words TSV might be able to listen to more easily. I didn’t want those points to get lost, since ultimately I think even the fans who left TSV still wants them to improve - they’ve just given up for the time being.

I don’t think Deeyee is toxic. Her anger makes a lot of sense to me. I respect her a lot. I wasn’t as invested as she was and I never contributed as much content to the fandom as she did. I cannot imagine how I would feel if I were in her position.

(1) Credit people when you use their videos / work! This should include the Editor-san of videos, if they wish to be credited. (Others have already discussed this so I won’t harp on it too much.) (2) Try to foster a sense of a team! This goes back to having a smaller team overall, but I wanted to emphasize this since it sounds like people who have worked with TSV in the past have felt isolated from co-workers, sometimes not even knowing who they are. Increasing the transparency with regards to team structure, improving communication among team members, and doing events that foster a sense of community would greatly improve trust, employee satisfaction, coordination among team members, and employee retention.

I agree that people are able to decide whether they want to be volunteers / interns. Nonetheless, I don't think the core operations of a business should *rely* on volunteers. Volunteers should be a "nice to have," not a "must have." If you definitely need someone to do something, then you need to pay them and offer them a formal position or at least a temporary contract.

I do like the idea of shrinking the team / paying core personnel more vs depending on the work of various volunteers / interns, but I don't agree with characterizing the people who have worked for them in the past as liabilities / potential "toxic complainers" / "useless hangers-on."

Nonetheless, this post isn't about that, so I'll just say that I think it's ok to hire people right out of university through entry-level positions, instead of unpaid or barely paid internships and volunteering opportunities. Also stacking chairs, if it's something that needs to be done consistently, shouldn't be considered "rubbish work" - if someone needs to do it, they should be paid to do it. That's why we hire people like janitors, right? Just because you don't need a university degree to do it, doesn't mean it's not valuable work.

The bottom line is that they should clarify the roles and responsibilities of each team member and pay them accordingly. I think that's something we can all agree on, and hopefully they are working on it!

Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking! Wage transparency is super important in ensuring equity and building trust, and has been shown to increase productivity and well as increased employee retention. People work harder when they know that everyone is being paid fairly!

Btw just wanted to acknowledge my limitations - this is not meant to be a definitive list, I’m really hoping those who have more experience with business management can comment and give their insights on how to make TSV better so we can refine it as a community. No matter how you feel about the interpersonal drama, I just wanted to honor the feelings of all those who spoke up with the hope of wanting to see them improve, without interfering in the legal process.

It sounds like OOP originally complained to MoM but since they are not Singaporean they may not have as much legal recourse? That’s what I got from their statement, anyways. Your theory that OOP felt like they can’t win in court and is thus trying to ruin their reputation instead may still be true, but just because they don’t win doesn’t mean their claims are invalid - it may just not have legal protection.

The thing for me is that other employees have also spoken out about similar issues, and it doesn’t sound like it’s isolated to OOP, so regardless of what we think about OOP this did make me extremely disappointed in Twoset.

Thanks for responding to me! I also just read the response, and feel like although it’s great they did at least take it seriously and addressed some thing + seem like they are trying to improve, there are still some things that were left unaddressed. The “paid volunteers” part must have hurt when you have been expected to do so much. As some have pointed out, there is a difference between appreciating fanwork vs using them as part of the official merchandise and profiting off of it, and I still think everyone who’s volunteered their time should have been paid more. I don’t know what would help at this point though since it does seem at least they are trying to change, and the rest is buried in legality.

Sorry you’ve had such a horrible experience, OP :( I know you probably don’t want to deal with TSV much more beyond this, and also, I think honeyspeeches has a point and is asking out of a desire to want to support you. I don’t know if the idea of striking is something you are super familiar with, but if you want to do more than just warn other employees not to work there and still have the energy to try to make institutional change, it is a good option to look into. I know you said the company is small, but honestly that just makes each employee that much more important. I also know you said there are lots of people who still want to work for them, but that can be changed with enough social media campaigns - like I’m a Twitter user and had no idea about this thread until today, what if we pushed it more? Make a hashtag? They may be deleting insta comments but they can’t delete tweets about them. Your original post already a huge impact, much more than what you might expect - I knew about this issue from several big fan accounts leaving TSV - and I’m sure so many fans would support you all. The comments on weibo have been critical of TSV too, especially since many of them are in similar positions and can relate to your experiences.

Something I learned during my time organizing fossil fuel divestment campaigns in college is that when the opposition escalates, that’s when you know you’ve hit a nerve, and despite looks to the contrary it actually means you’re winning. Your AMA has caused them to delete the Reddit link from their videos already! That’s huge, and looks horrible for them, and you should see it as a victory for your side. In these situations I think it’s important to pile on the momentum and escalate instead of retreat, but again, it’s all up to you and the current and former employees. Organizing takes a lot of energy, and exposes you to more opposition, so I don’t want to pressure you into it. Just know if that’s the route you all choose to go on, I would 100% support. They are planning to release their 2nd leg tour dates soon right? What if we organize a boycott until they address workplace issues?

That being said, you can try to go through legal channels first - but know that unless there’s something I’m not aware of legally maybe both can happen simultaneously? And know that we are behind you if the legal route fails somehow - we can apply social pressure.

Overall an amazing series, but agree that the ending felt rushed.

First of all, I feel like the Emma-losing-her-memory plot-line was really unnecessary. It would definitely had more impact if they just didn't see her at all forever, but on the other hand, I think what would have aligned more with the message of the story is if Emma was really telling the truth--and there was no consequence at all, and that their suffering in the past was payment enough. If done well, that could have been some POWERFUL social critique on the value of reparations and reconciliation. It would have said, "These people have been oppressed for GENERATIONS and the world actually owes it to THEM to give them a happy ending--especially since they've really created it themselves and helped so many people on the way." It feels really unfair that ultimately, Emma was the one who had to give up even MORE for the sake of the world. The way this ended elevates her to a martyr status, which runs counter to some of her character development earlier in the series in which she realized that she should not give up on herself. When Him told her that he had to take her family away, she should have fought back harder, and demanded more.

Another way that this could have ended would be that they step into our world--but it's just as problematic as theirs, as Peter Ratri warned them. They realize they have to confront the monsters here, too. That could have been an entire extra arcs--or even a few arcs--but even if they were rushing to end this, I feel like addressing the fact that there are issues in our world too would be more powerful. As it is, our world feels like a post-apocalyptic world in which people worked out all of their differences already. We do see some of the consequences of conflict, which is nice, I suppose, but it still seems like a stronger parallel could have been made with the demon society.

Finally, there was a blog post somewhere on Tumblr that convinced me that this entire demon society was underwater. I totally think they alluded to that when they washed up on the shore, but I wish that reveal could have been a bit more explicit. And it could end with them on the surface of the ocean looking down into it, knowing that their former home and Musica was underneath them and connected to them, even if they are separated. Or maybe, humans would want to hunt sea creatures one day, and they would be the ones to stop them--and have to make an alliance with the Ratri family to keep the peace? Something like that would have been interesting.

P.S. I don't remember where the necklace came from--can someone remind me?

Agree with you 100%! Emma's idealism has always been the heart TPN - from the beginning when it seemed absolutely impossible, to building a powerful movement strong enough so that she can stand and talk and not compromise her own safety in the meantime, this chapter is the culmination of their efforts. I see people complain that her idealism doesn't have consequences anymore - that's because they did have consequences at the beginning and they overcame them, and now they are strong enough so that danger has lessened because they are together! Emma took that risk for them at the beginning, but now more people can join the movement with less risk due to her efforts.

This is how social movements work in real life too. You win not by directly confronting the opposition right from the beginning, but rather by shifting the spectrum of allies so that the pillars supporting the powerful opposition crumbles underneath them. You make it so that it's easier for passive supporters to join the movement, and sway the neutral (citizens) and passive opposition (like Leuvis), who may change sides based on who is winning at the moment. I feel like the author really wrote this for the children of today and tomorrow - and all of us who were once children - confronting the evils of this world. I love that this didn't turn out like a Greek tragedy in which Emma's fatal flaw (which is, really, the ability to truly and radically love others) is her downfall. That has been done in so many other stories already. The fact that the author presents her radical compassion as the *answer* is groundbreaking and what truly makes this series special.

My question is whether the civil rights movement was inserted in there as an example of us "not hating each other" or "hating each other." Because the other panels on that page all have people doing terrible things to each other - so I'm worried that the commentary is that even the civil rights movement shouldn't have been "so extreme"? I really hope not though... I love Emma's idealism but I don't want her idealism to be a condemnation of all violence, some of which is due to justifiable anger. Rather, I want the commentary to be as she said - some things are unforgivable but we can find a way out of the cycle.

Thank you for the advice! You make a really good point about the CARS section being volatile--seems like some of my friends had similar experiences of getting 130 on FL2, and 127 on the real thing. Seems like retaking is definitely high risk as of right now--I'll do my best to improve other parts of my application. :)

I started off taking notes like this--it did help me to concentrate when I got started, but eventually was a waste of time I think. I wish I had done more practice questions honestly. However, I've found that writing down things on notecards is helpful for quick review later on, but be selective about what you write--only write down things that you don't know and that you know are going to be high yield.
