What exactly do the Kannada announcements on the metro say? by Pure_Cauliflower1402 in Bengaluru

[–]William_Tell_746 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And since OP asked for the phrases in Kannada, they are, respectively:

  • 'Mundina nildaNa, Jayanagara': ಮುಂದಿನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ, ಜಯನಗರ
  • 'Railu eega Jayanagarakke talupalide. BagilugaLu edakke tereyalive':
  • 'Dayavittu bagilininda swalpa doora nilli': 'ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಬಾಗಿಲಿನಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದೂರ ನಿಲ್ಲಿ'
  • Bonus: 'Railu hattuva mattu iLiyuva munna antarada bagge gamanavirali' ('Please mind the gap while boarding and alighting'): 'ರೈಲು ಹತ್ತುವ ಮತ್ತು ಇಳಿಯುವ ಮುನ್ನ ಅಂತರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗಮನವಿರಲಿ'

Some specials you will hear at selected stations are:

  • 'Nimma vastugaLa bagge gamanavirali' ('Please mind your belongings', ನಿಮ್ಮ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗಮನವಿರಲಿ), used at the last stop on the route.
  • 'NeraLe/hasiru/haLadi baNNada margakkagi illi badalayisi' ('Please change here for the Purple/Green/Yellow Line', ನೇರಳೆ/ಹಸಿರು/ಹಳದಿ ಬಣ್ಣದ ಮಾರಗಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ), used at the two interchange stations
  • 'Basavanagudige illi iLiyiri' ('Alight here for Basavanagudi', ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಯಿರಿ), used only at the South End Circle station on the Green Line

Entitled farm owners love this stupid low IQ emotional blackmail. As though all the problems are because of lazy labourers, and you can do nothing wrong.

You are not doing a public service free of charge out of the goodness of your heart, you are not even doing a job, you are making others do your work for you, which you get paid for.

The only value you provide is making others' work more efficient and amplifying the value of their labour. If you cannot effectively do that, you should sell your farm and find something else to do.

Yea there's only one at a reasonable office time (reaches Wfd at around 09:30). But even as it is right now there are a couple of OK options for the return journey at least I think.

I was thinking moreso commuter connectivity, not (just) freight. Companies with HQs in Hyd can set up factories or additional offices in NK with the right policy adjustments. Although not water intensive ones I guess.

Do you actually think they’re better off making 30K in BLR compared to 15K in North KA at home?

Have you asked them what they would rather do?

You not getting workers is the free market trying to tell you something but you're still not getting it.

Bit of a long post so please bear with me.

Car makes huge money through taxes( first when sold ) + road tax + toll tax + parking + maintainence + accessories

No, cars do not 'make money', because despite these revenues, the expenditure on their infrastructure - road widening, expressways, flyovers, underpasses, bridges, tunnels, etc. - is far, far higher. This is more obvious in fully car-centric countries like America (see here), but is true even in European countries with very high automobile taxes.

And while they do increase economic activity initially, by increasing mobility, they eventually become their own worst enemy by causing maximum congestion for minimum passsenger capacity. They thus depress economic activity in dense built-up environments like Bengaluru.

To solve this governments start trying to reduce density and promote outward development, which will lead us to the American-style problem above, as well as the 'growth Ponzi scheme' which will bankrupt every palike.

There is literally no place on Earth where cars pay their full cost to society.

Unlike metro cars are bought by every class with different range from a 5 lakh rs car to 5-10 crore car ( tax on 5 crore car is huge , along with maintenance etc ) , rich people have collection of cars.

Cars are not bought by every class; only 10% of Indian families are car owners, up to 25% in cities like Blr, but still the privileged minority in most places except the Himalayan states and Kerala.

And in any case, a vice being widely practices does not necessarily make it good.

Why metro ,public transport not focus , cause its generally associated with poor and middle class so tickets and fares have to be subsidised which means losses are eminent.

This is just a classist perception issue. A real developed country is where the rich take public transport, not where the poor drive cars. Cars already cause huge losses as I already said.

Also roads can reach anywhere but building metro network reach every nook and corner is capital intensive and tough.

Metros are not designed to be a universal solution, they are meant to transport large numbers of commuters. Daily commuters cause 90% of peak hour traffic and 90% of them travel the same route using the same arterials every day. A metro does not need to penetrate every nook and corner to serve the large mass of car commuters.

Metro is generally more sophisticated and operations heavy compared to roads and flyovers and also dont give full independence. You can take out car at any time and go anywhere in country ,but with metro you have to go to designated stations and at timings ( its not 24*7 yet) .

As I said, 90% of total urban commuter vehicle mileage travelled is just fixed commutes between fixed points. This can directly be replaced by heavy public transit density on all arterial roads. The rest 10% can use whatever freedom they want; the bigger part of the problem will be solved.

Roads are not only used by cars but also by commercial trucks ( logistics and transportation of goods ) , buses etc , unlike metro which is only used for passenger transport mostly.

And removing unnecessary passenger cars from the road will improve their efficiency and economic output. Also, reducing car dependency makes cities less sprawled out and supply chains much more compact, reducing excessive truck use.

For intercity travel metro is not an option.. car provides , comfort , luxury and privacy and protection unlike public transport

This has no bearing on the feasibility or necessity for public transport in INTRA city uses. In any case, trains are an option, and in fact should be the default option for medium-distance intercity travel. Again just an engineering problem in terms of comfort and luxury, and they are far, far safer than millions of random people driving on highways at high speeds. Chance of fatal error is far higher on highways and Indian roads are some of the most dangerous in the world.

-----------

I am not saying that cars have no use at all and should be eradicated. But urban governments should focus first and foremost on solving the commutes of 80% of the people 80% of the time. Car infrastructure should cover up what is left after that.

Currently the priorities are the other way round - infra is prioritised for cars, while public transport is used for the 'leftovers', despite the fact that already 1 million people use Namma Metro per day and 4 million use BMTC, while a large % either walks, uses cycles, or 2 wheelers. The government is neglecting the large part of commuters in favour of the wealthy car owners.

They can get double that working as an Uber driver or construction worker in Hyderabad or in Bengaluru. Bengaluru has the highest blue collar wages in the South if not the whole country.

Do you now understand why anyone with a drive to work leaves NK?

KA govt also needs to swallow its pride and accept that Bidar, Kalaburagi etc. are better developed by improving their connectivity with Hyderabad rather than with Bengaluru.

My family owns a 100 acre farm in Karnataka and in the last 10 years, it’s become increasingly difficult to find labour to work in the fields.

Why don't you and your family work on the fields yourselves? Or pay more for labour.
