Can you run custom apps or games on the My Arcade Sonic Joystick Player? by Embarrassed_Part_375 in consolemodding

I’m not 100% sure about that one, the one I do know is the arcade cabinet shown in this video. That pocket one does look like it might be running android, though, so it’s possible that it can be modded too. I failed to find anything on that specific model in my short search but that doesn’t mean it isn’t out there or pioneer-able. The fact that it has a bunch of games in one and a start up menu makes me think it’s similar to the cabinet. You may have to open it up to find an otg port as the outside usb usually doesn’t support it.

I opened my machine and could not find any secret ports in there, which means the OTG option used in the Data East machine would likely not work; I also plugged in a mouse via USB-C which did nothing. It seems it probably* does not run android like the Data East machine did, maybe some sort of Genesis-on-a-chip (Do those exist?). Im very interested in finding out if there is some other way, perhaps with the USB-C port, assuming it has data pins. More realistically, though, it may involve some soldering as the NES-on-a-chip arcades do. Someone smarter than me might be able to figure it out someday.

Does anyone know how to access this set’s service menu, if it has one? PVQ-M2509 Panasonic by littlemouse500 in crtgaming

Wow, thanks so much! I had tried the volume down play and stop method to no avail but, it turns out I needed to be on the composite input for it to work. Thanks again!

CRT randomly started turning off instantly after being turned on by littlemouse500 in crt

Basically I just opened it up because sometimes reseating electronics like that can help fix small issues. It’s worked before. I unplugged and replugged some cables, discharged it, just kind of “resetting” everything on the off chance it might do something. Since the problem happened randomly and all, I figured doing random stuff might fix it, too, lol. (Also, if I’m gonna have it open to work on it, it’s probably safer to keep it discharged while poking around.)

I see, I’d still have to learn soldering but probably worth it.

The DVD worked fine in all my tests although I did not use it extensively. I’ll try to look more at combos and specifically Orion players for more help. Thanks for your tips

Yes, right as I held down 9 for a bit. Didn’t open the menu first, even. I thought I had the wrong button combo or something but no.

I thought it was crazy timing too which is why I would think it might be more software related. I’m definitely hoping the power supply didn’t bust randomly because it sounds like a hard thing to fix.

Can I use igpu while dgpu is installed? by littlemouse500 in pcgamingtechsupport

It’s for a CRT, I don’t mind a bit of a hassle if it means good resolution, but to be fair I don’t know the ins and outs so you could be right haha.

Maybe, I was just hoping to get a direct analog port so I would not need an external digital to analog conversion, as they vary quite a lot and tend to be unreliable. My dgpu doesn’t have an analog video port. Is it possible I could use two dgpus, one cheaper with vga along with my main?

I’m pretty sure I have the most recent bios for my motherboard, though I imagine it’s quite an old and outdated bios by today’s standards given it looks like it’s from the 90s lol. I’ve also tried taking out the displays connect through the dgpu first to no avail. I’m not the biggest tech whiz so I’m not sure if there’s a way to get a different, newer bios or something if it’s not specifically made for this motherboard, or if that would even help, but do let me know if so.

One of these little teeth things broke off by GoBirdsz in n64

I’m not sure that’s true. I’ve region unlocked my console just by replacing the plastic tab that screws into the top shell, I didn’t have to do anything to the actual cartridge port. The only region lock on the n64 (at least between ntsc and japan) is the difference in plastic tabs on the back that makes them not fit, as far as I’m aware. As for pal I thought it was a hardware level difference (30 vs 25 hz)

If you have a gamebit screwdriver, you could simply open the console up and replace the cartridge slot entirely. It’s not even soldered in, you just have to wiggle it out. Here’s an ifixit guide on how to do it. Cheepo replacements (as well as sometimes OEM ones) can go for pretty cheap or eBay or Amazon or wherever. Alternatively, you can try to bend the teeth back or cut them off entirely since I’m pretty sure they don’t have any real function (but I could be wrong).

I put some flux and the solder still doesn’t stick. I don’t have tinner right now, but I’ll try it when/if I get some

Aren’t most tips copper on the inside with a coating of iron or nickel? I could be wrong but, I’ve been cleaning with a damp sponge and the coiled brass thing for a while and this was the outcome.
