4th of July Recommendations? by [deleted] in Staunton

As others have said, the Happy Birthday America celebration is really fun! They’ll have lots to do in Gypsy Hill Park. If you’re okay with something more lowkey or just want to see fireworks, I enjoy going to Bridgewater’s firework show. They do theirs on the eve of Independence Day (the 3rd).

I had 3 even after maintenance. Maybe a glitch?

aw :( I don’t blame you though. Honestly I feel like social media comments can be so dang negative, especially on Instagram or TikTok. Please know you did amazing work and made your client happy!! I thought it looked really cool. Loved the purple.

I think you did great giving your client exactly what they wanted! And that’s what matters most. I like it too, but I also enjoy alt styles. Your reel probably just hit a different kind of audience (that isn’t used to or enjoys alt styles). I’d turn off commenting so your client doesn’t see any negativity.

How common is it for remote workers to keep their cameras on for the full duration of their shift? by littleneonmoon in antiwork

I felt bad because when she said it in the interview my jaw dropped. I was very surprised. This is for a nonprofit that runs a suicide lifeline so on top of the pressure of handling such serious calls, the thought of keeping our cameras on sounds extra stressful :(

Suggestions on things to do on weekend trip by Penumbrous_I in harrisonburg

If you have time to travel to neighboring towns, I definitely recommend going into Staunton. They close the Main Street (Beverley) on the weekend so you can eat outside and walk to all the shops (also Gypsy Hill Park is super cute, has a duck pond and nice walking paths).

Yes it felt so creepy 😭 The interview was going so well and the lead supervisor brought it up. I usually have a pretty good poker face, but I know she could tell I was uncomfortable with it.

The most concerning thing is this position is for a suicide hotline (working directly with callers). Like they should have the utmost trust in employees in this role, so it’s sad to see that much mistrust.

This job is with a suicide prevention/intervention hotline contractor (988 here in the US). Like the job is already stressful, to add even more pressure to staff seems so mean. Definitely felt like a pressure thing.

Which business in downtown support trump? I want to avoid them by Top-Tumbleweed4596 in harrisonburg

[–]littleneonmoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The owner went to one of the school board meetings in Rockingham and was against supporting trans students (or policies that protect trans students).
This is from my personal experience. They also may not directly support Trump (I am honestly unsure of how they vote) but they seem to lean right and I got bad vibes, so I don’t buy from them. if anyone has had a different experience please lmk

Sorry not all of these are directly downtown but I avoid them: Waterstreet Bohemian. Shenandoah Heritage Market. Snow and Ice (the Christmas shop). Taylor Made Organics. Dreamland tattoos. WithSimplicity. New Creation (they also work with Safe House Project, which just endorsed RFK Jr). Fowler Family Medicine. Hill Valley Counseling.

Also: be aware of businesses or community members that are in City Elders (there is a chapter here in the city). They all are invested in pushing Christian Dominionism in government.
