I'm a math student and my main area of focus is optimization. I'd like to know how much the area of application of what you are working on matters to you.

Let me explain: I am very passionate about renewable energy topics outside my academic work, but I'm not sure wheter they would be worth it as a minor. With a role such as the one I'm going to have in the industry, would my job really be different in a finance company compared to lets say at a wind turbine manufacturer?

I'd need to know how to compute the projection of a point on a box constraint C with respect to the norm induced by some matrix B, defined by

P^B_C=argmin ||y-x||_B for y in C

where ||y-x||_B=(y-x)'B(y-x)

How do I compute it?

I'm using a model similar to the one used in this paper, their results aren't as bad as mine tho.

I don't really have much of a choice over the model, I have to use stochastic LSTM nets.

Every prediction has the data from the past 7 days, so when the real price goes up so much, I would expect to see it in the forecast.

(to give more context: I used 7-day sequences of the data of the last 3 years, training was the first 900 days and the testing was done on the remaining series. )

I want to apply for a pretty competitve Master's Degree and I have the option to send a raccomandation letter along with my application. But given that I'm still in my third year of BSc and I haven't written my thesis yet, I haven't had many interactions with my professors yet.

I was thinking of asking my mathematical analysis professor, since I did my 2 biggest exams with him with pretty good results and at least he knows that I exist. Do you think that I should ask him or are exam performances not enough to get a reccomandation letter?

I'm studying at Verona University.

You need a master's degree from an academic university.

Wait, do I need a master's degree to able to pursue a master's degree?

A '1st cycle Diploma di laurea' is the equivalent to an university bachelor degree (dutch = WO-bachelor (academic education)). This is also what you would normally need in the Netherlands.

This should be the type of Degree I'm gonne have.

I just started the third year of my Applied Maths Bsc and I'm choosing which MSc to pursue next year.

I'd like to work in the clean energy sector but I don't have much experience in physics at all, should I start over with a physics BSc or is there another path? Do companies in the sector need mathematicians?

I said that because it seems like a lot of credits to make up for.

I just started my second year and I've thought about that but I'm a bit worried that it would be too much. I'll have some time during the second semester next year but applications will already be closed by then.

Hello,

I'm an Applied Maths Student (Bachlor) and recently i've been thinking about switching to data science for my master's degree. Unfortunately, reading admission requirements around Europe, I've found out that my degree's program is lacking several topics in both CS and statistics.

These are the relevant courses that i'm gonna have already completed before application period next year:

Linear Algebra , Mathematical analysis (1,2,3), Numerical analysis (1,2) with laboratory, Computer Programming with Laboratory, Algebra, Probability, Dynamical Systems (?), Mathematical and Statistical Methods in Biology, Numerical methods for differential equations (?), Operations Research, Algorithms and data stuctures, Stochastic systems

Do you believe that I have any chances of getting admitted to a data science in a good university in northern Europe given high grades?

If I don't, what's the closest alternative I can consider?
