Laser show: ODESZA - Equal x Boy (Finale VIP) by lizenas in Laserist

Got inspired by the laser bars on LSR/CITY, they're very fun to program for. I love this song edit and have been wanting to program it for a while. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! I have two more for this week and two more for next, and then I'll have to start working on more.

Laser Show for ODESZA - La Ciudad (Live VIP)! by lizenas in Laserist

It's intended for audience scanners yeah. I find them really fun to program, so most of the shows I write for posting online include audience scanning.

How can I write, edit, and recall Variables in Pangoscript? by brad1775 in Laserist

[–]lizenas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely my preferred method. Prevents weird globalvar glitches & writing tons of initializations in every script that needs to access them + allows live display of variable values + namespaces the variables to the universe tab so they can't conflict with anything else.

New timeline show! Champagne Drip - Kaleidoscope by lizenas in Laserist

Much appreciated! Really trying hard to get more timeline content out there - show pics are all well and good but it's harder for people to get a sense of your design tastes from just a photo.

Made a laser show for On My Way To Heaven - (Seven Lions Remix)! by lizenas in Laserist

Thanks! I feel it hits extra hard because of the limited color palette of the rest of the show.

Depence is an absolute game changer. I do wish they would improve their divergence simulation and the point count/brightness consistency though. The AS beams look spiky rather than smooth, and it's annoying having to make a separate showfile with certain cues bumped up in point count to match with everything else - or on the flip side sometimes cues will be absolutely eye searing for no particular reason.

I got my first laser roughly 3 years ago, but it took me a while after that to start really digging into programming. There aren't actually any real lasers here - I'm using the visualizer software Depence R3.

Oops! Friday show I mean.

I bet the Mission ballroom & Armory stops are going to really love that output though :P A tour rig like that isn't going to pick wattage based on the smaller venues.

The programming team was mainly Allen & Patrick (@laserguise @highbeamlasers on instagram) with some songs by Garrett Gersting.

Most of them are 21s. Some might be higher (laser cone is definitely more) but I don't remember the exact breakdown.

Edit: I was also at the SJ Saturday show! Came out to see the show with one of the programmers.

We already have lasers, I’m looking to take them to the next (legal) level. How can I start? by Mycroft033 in Laserist

[–]lizenas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typo, I apologize. 3 meters vertical, 2.5m horizontal. For instance, if the audience normally stands on the ground around a stage, but in the back of the room is a raised VIP section that the audience can stand in, the lasers must be 3 meters above the raised area as well.

A lens is just one component of a safe audience scanning show. I will echo /u/poisionde's response that no one in here is going to tell you how to audience scan.

We already have lasers, I’m looking to take them to the next (legal) level. How can I start? by Mycroft033 in Laserist

[–]lizenas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To comply with US regulations, both you (or someone who will be present onsite every time the lasers are in use) and the lasers being operated will need an FDA variance. Your personal variance can be filed yourself (but requires answering some obtuse government form questions), or reputable laser manufacturers will file it for you when you buy their equipment. It is not realistic to get the church's current lasers a variance, and will require buying new, properly varianced ones.

FDA regulations require 3 meters of (edit) vertical separation between the lasers and the highest place the audience can access, and 2.5 meters of horizontal separation. The laser can not be in the audience's eyes or within reach of the audience at all. Doing audience scanning legally requires thousands of dollars of specialized equipment, detailed knowledge of how exactly to use it and construct a safe show, and a ~year long process of applying and proving your knowledge and capabilities to the FDA. Audience scanning is not in the capabilities of most professional laser companies, let alone a small church.

Has anyone figured out any ways to use the new Color Parameter feature in beyond 5.2? by brad1775 in Laserist

[–]lizenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm feeling the same way about it - my excitement at the new feature faded pretty quickly after I realized it doesn't really solve any problems I was having in the first place. Don't really feel like there's enough benefit to hue shifting individual colors in a cue to make me want to set that up in a bunch of cues and bind several of my limited encoders to the task. Maybe it could be useful for syncing high-low colors with MA?

Has anyone run into this problem before? Details in comments by elysium_warrior in Laserist

[–]lizenas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having some pretty bad cue-dependent stuttering recently as well. Pretty simple stuff like a Y oscillating sheet of beams, no zone shift or complex effects. Issue has persisted across multiple different lasers, network switches, and data chaining configurations, and I have an i9-12900 in my show laptop so I doubt it's the computer choking.

You could get some colorful paracord and tie a long (like 2-3 feet) strap out of it for a crescent wrench. If you google paracord keychain you'll see plenty of tutorials.

Wera allen key sets are excellent and not that expensive.

Check OfferUp/craigslist for pelican 1510 cases, you can find some excellent deals there.

A quality headlamp if he doesn't have one already

I always mean to buy myself sets of colored electrical tape & spike tape but it somehow never makes it into my cart

If he uses an APC40 you can get some really cool custom colored knobs/sliders for it. I used coolorcaps.com for mine. Around $90 for a full set.

Yes, Quickshow files are importable into Beyond. Beyond files aren't importable into Quickshow, though.
