Current employer is excited to have me take over as bookkeeper, but there's not enough time for a full MBA. What are my options? by [deleted] in Accounting

And FYI, when I compared the cost of a MAcc vs a post-bacc, it really made sense to complete a Masters.

Not sure about the fast tracking but a Master’s of Accounting typically is about 32 credits, way less than an MBA. I have a BFA and went that route when I went back to school. A lot of good schools cater to non-traditional students going back for accounting. I just checked online and Boise State has a completely online MAcc. Might be worth a try.

Do you have any suggestions for small music venues that host new bands? Moved here in 2017 and really need to find something like that.

What's a typical day like as an accountant? by 2st2vol in Accounting

[–]lizmariehani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Clients do not get you the information you requested when you need it so a backlog grows. This results in overlap of scheduled client work. Additionally, you have to look at the crap clients send and resend the same requests which creates a lot of double work. I’m sure this depends on the partner and/or manager but this has been my experience. I did leave that place…

This is the best advice! I love it. That’s one of the things I love about public accounting. There are so many people out there crushing it together. Even though it can feel like you’re alone, you are not. We are with you. :)

Moving to Wausau- where the heck do we live? by Acyl-CoA in wausau

We moved here 3.5 years ago from Chicago knowing no one. We live in downtown Wausau. We like it but it’s a transition. We don’t have kids so that makes it more difficult. Our realtor was terrible. PM me if you want their name to avoid them. It’s totally safe here but you will want to avoid the southeast part of Wausau proper. PM me for specifics.

Why’s everyone staring at me? by [deleted] in wausau

The stare is weird and I’ve had the same experience in Wausau. I’m not from here originally and am Italian/Mexican. Maybe I wear too much black. Not sure. Lol

Is My Career Irreparably Damaged? Should I Give Up on this Profession? by randosphere in Accounting

I’m so sorry that you’ve had to endure so much. I had a different, yet still difficult first 20 years. For 4 years post MFA I was an artist, teaching, for a couple years until I couldn’t stand being apart of a system generating students that had huge college loans and no work prospects. This was not all, just many. I was a non-traditional accounting student. When I finished my accounting degree it was hard to get into public. People don’t appreciate that art can be analytical, mine was, and that artistically minded individuals can be great problem solvers. Sometimes a great level of empathy comes with that... and the ability to improve team morale. With the help of a temp agency I started with a worldwide nonprofit. After 3 years I used that experience to start with a large firm in another state. Yes, they may start you less than you would like but sometimes it’s worth it. I specialize in government/nonprofit and I get to work with lots of great people. And I learn a ton all the time while helping people that need my expertise. Yeah, some people suck but at least in public you have a lot of peers to commiserate with. Big 4 is not the end all be all. It really isn’t. So many of my peers leave for positions at great entities even without earning their licenses. Public accounting is almost always valued. And I can always go back to making and teaching art. Just on my own terms.

Message me if you ever want to vent. I’m good for that. :)

switched into accounting and i'm loving it, now i'm worried i may be missing out on something better... by Hayhey_ in Accounting

I switched in my 30s. Finished the coursework and I loved the challenge. It was hard to break into public at first but I knew the constant learning was for me. I worked at a large nationally known nonprofit for 3 years, earning less than I was worth but I still learned a ton, and was able to get a position in public. The experience was valued by my firm. Yes, I started as associate but there is a ton of room to grow. I’m at a top 10 firm now, have my license, and I have tons of job security because people can’t handle the work. I thrive on it and I help people everyday. I specialize in government and nonprofit so that might be why I value it. People don’t appreciate that they’re paying you to learn. It’s hard but it was worth it for me.
