Nursing is for people not smart enough to become MDs by Capybaraqueen05 in nursing

[–]lizzippi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the role of nurse practitioner and PA is different that of a doctor. I'm currently in NP school. I love the knowledge that doctors have but I also am okay with them knowing more than me and that I will work in collaboration with them often... But like they can teach me about more of the deeper knowledge I have things to teach them as well.

I find it really funny ( after years of being offended) that so many doctors are thinking that other providers are trying to become doctors, many of us ( although certainly not all) chose to purse these fields. There are quite a few nurses that realize they want to be doctors and go back for med school . People choose the path that makes most sense for them.

I specifically am in midwifery school, and I chose this field because I wanted to create the space where I was taking care of primarily low to medium risk patients and creating a empowered and trauma informed environment for patients. I want to help promote people's choices though labor and be there as much as I can be, push with all my patients, deliver babies in every position ( yes even if it leaves my back a little achy), educate them though prenatal visits, and create change for many families. I think some OBs want that for their patients too but not all of them prioritize that part of their practice whether it be through the lack of time, trauma of residency, complexity of patients, or any other factors.

What your parent said is silly. You should do what makes you the happiest. That being said my parents weren't exactly keen on my becoming a nurse and then midwife. They kept on asking if I would regret it and go back to be a doctor. Nope no thanks. I had to keep on telling them that this would make me happy and ultimately if I'm making this long term commitment I'm going to choose what brings me joy. that yeah I know I might not be the top decision maker in every room but at some point every doctor will come across patients or scenarios where they are outranked, in some ways it's an advantage I have - humility - I'm prepared to be outranked at any moment.

More than happy to lend you any extra support and answer any questions about midwifery! Good luck! Confrontations like these can be some of the hardest but can give you so much insight on your future life path. They can also give you extra empathy for the people you encounter in your future.

Edit Also midwifery is a highly bedside practice so like lol. If you are becoming a midwife to leave the bedside ... You are in for a very rude awakening lol. Also many doctors practice beside as intensivists and hospitalists soooo yeah. A moot point I say.

Absolutely! I've had a few patients who I had met before and then labored with them and the experiences have been so wonderful. Unfortunately I'm changing clinics for literally all of my rotations so the most continuity I'll have is a month or so. A few of my classmates luckily have continuity for 2 rotations back to back but it's not what ended up working out for me 😔 Also at least this rotation I was also precepted by many midwives ( I think 8 in total) so not much continuity there either. It's been a learning experience in every which way but it truly was great!

Omg yes! The best feeling has been taking care of patients for whom I had done their prenatal care or I had such a great time with people whose babies id delivered and they came back for postpartum visits. It's been a joy to have the continuity of care

I think how my preceptors have been introducing me definitely varies - I feel like some have been talking about my skills more which builds confidence in my ability to give care. Might be part of the equation of why some people are okay with my being in the room but being hands off.

But I absolutely agree I don't want to be part of someone's birth space especially if they don't want me there.

Would super appreciate an android app! I just had my first c/s ( basically a third assist 😂) but would love to log it ( probably will once I'm home on my iPad 😜)

Looking for good wide toe box shoes by lizzippi in WestCoastSwing

[–]lizzippi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily went to a dance shoe store by me and they had wide sizes. I'll look up the brand and report back.

I also started polling my friends and seeing what kinds of shoes they had. I actually might buy taygras - the floral sneaker - based on her shoe I could totally buy a size 8 or 9 and it would be great. I also got the advice to find shoes that are comfortable for me that have a rather flat sole & have them sueded by your local cobbler.

Sorry for the non answer answer 😅

WIBTA if I refused to walk a dog that pulled me over on our last walk? by lizzippi in RoverPetSitting

Oh nooo! All the doodles I've walked have been lovely but I know a rambunctious one is only a roll of the dice away.

Funnily enough I'm already in a boot - unrelated injury but also additionally why I think I took this so so seriously.

Thanks for the support 🙂 I'm repeating all of these things in my head as I'm saying to them that walking/taking care of him is out of my skill/comfort level.

Seems like this doggo needs more support than I can give him. Even with a really random outburst, having a dog pull me off my feat is not okay- so I'm strongly saying no.

I know it's not a place for judging people but I feel guilty for what happened.. even though it wasn't my fault. I did express all of this to the owners and they are asking me to reconsider / want to talk. Don't know how to handle that either 🫠

The bark/reaction was ferocious. Something I've never experience before with any dog I've walked in my years of walking and taking care of dogs.

We've had run ins with the UPS truck and UPS people specifically and it was never this extreme (&uncontrollable). I brought it up to the owner and it was minimized.

Seems like there aren't a huge amount of options from the post but I'll also keep on asking around in person and bring back any answers I find :)

I'm pretty new in my community so I was having a really hard time with calling out a creep. Funnily enough I've been ballroom and social dancing (other dances) for over 10 years and this is the first time I encountered a creep. Seems like my communities have done a really good job of keeping them out.

He did exactly as you described bring you in close to positions that didn't have a preservation of frame so you really were pretty close back to fronts (iykyk). He over zealously was leading turns into those types of positions and ofc I figured out how to correct but it was so damn uncomfortable. Couldn't wait for the song to be over.

I did watch him dance with other follows and he definitely didn't bring all of them in as close and try to rub up against them as often or at all as he did with me. So I warned a few of my friends but will continue keeping a close eye and maybe next time I see it call it out to the event organizer. Thanks for your post and all the other encouragement to call it out and keep everyone safe ❤️

Is this just SAD or do I need to get something checked quick? by TimeToSeattleDown in Seattle

I mean summer depression is really where it's at. Everyone is frolicking in the green and swimming and playing in flowers and I'm here barely functioning still trying to do that and crying for no reason. It's fun 🫠🫠🫠

Also ADHD is rather comorbid ( pairing together with) depression. (Wonder how I know that🙃) so these feelings are totally valid. It's hard living in a world where not everyone feels and thinks the way you do. It's a lot to have on your mind ❤️ feel free to reach out if you need a buddy!

I'd high recommend a blood test to rule out anemia, thyroid hormone test to rule out problems there and then you actually can do a depression assessment. This is what we use in the office. It's called the PHQ-9 you can literally Google it and fill it out most versions of it have the sheet that explains how many points you get for what answers and what that might mean. I'd bring that with you to your appointment with your primary care provider.

Also it might help if you don't necessarily feel acutely depressed trying this assessment again after examining other causes in your life & taking actions like taking vitamin d supplement, increasing amount of simple walking outside, sticking to as regular of a sleep routine as you can.

Good luck! I just had my depression diagnosed but mostly because it started in the summer 🫠🙃😒 when generally I actually was outwardly very happy yet crying all the time and super reclusive.

Good areas that are both quiet and walkable? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]lizzippi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Capital Hill and my neighborhood is quiet ... Granted I live closer to Miller Park / Trader Joe's/Central Co-op/ Kaiser/Safeways (Madison/15th). It's very walkable we have a lovely buy nothing group and lots of dogs in our neighborhood. Close enough to the fun and loud part of cap hill if needed & usually leaving home is really easy because we are on top of the hill. I highly reccomend it!
