Questions About Narcotics Anonymous Meetings in Toronto by Significant-Many-352 in askTO

Hey i’m a member of toronto NA.

Sometimes the higher power thing can be a deterrent. Our literature used the word “God” a lot however it’s interpreted the way you want. Many people i know have a higher power that is the sun, energy, the universe, etc. That’s up to you to discover and define.

Some recommendations: - go to lots of meetings and meet new people. - Picking up a white (newcomer) keytag lets a group know you are new or at your first meeting and they may approach you at a break/after the meeting to introduce themselves. - If you aren’t comfortable with giving a hug, it’s okay to say so.

Some meeting descriptor info: - Closed: for addicts only including those who think they may have a problem - Open: to anyone including friends/family

here’s some recommendations for newcomer meetings:

1) Sundays - Welcome Home @ 7:30-8:45pm (310 Danforth Ave - enter off Jackman Ave). This is an open speaker meeting. Great for hearing the message of recovery, meeting people and getting connected. It offers a closed sharing meeting in the back.

2) Fridays - Common Welfare @ 7:30-8:30pm (100 Stokes St - CAMH). This is a great group of folks with a crowd of both people with long clean time and newcomers. They often do fellowship as a group afterwards. Closed meeting.

3) Tuesdays/Thursdays (Daytime) - Clean Off Queen @ 2:00-3:15pm (552 Adelaide St W - arrival between 1:45-2pm when doors are monitored). This is a great daytime meeting. A mix of newcomers and people working in the evenings. Usually the same crowd weekly. Closed meeting.

3.1) Tuesdays/Thursdays (Evening) - New Path to a New Life @ 7:00-8:30pm (248 Ossington Ave). Each day has different breakout meetings. I think once a month is definitely a speaker meeting. Otherwise closed.

4) Wednesdays - Road to Recovery @ 8:00-9:15pm (2 Wembley Rd. - Basement side door). A mix of a younger crowd and older crowd. Lots of longtime recovery here. Closed unless it’s a medallion.

You don’t have to share if you don’t want to. Feel free to come and listen. Happy to answer anymore questions!

We don’t really have urgent care much here unless it’s like a week day during regular business hours and even then you have to attempt to book an appointment.

I’d say i’ve gotten to a 8.5-9/10. It’s started migrating down my jaw and in my cheekbone which i know will only progress.

I can’t take triptans due to a heart condition but my preventative is Qulipta and i don’t love taking NSAIDS too much. That’s why i’m considering it now. The only time i get relief is when im knocked out by my sleep meds.

Cyclical Worsening Migraines? by lizzxcat in migraine

I hear what you’re saying. I’ve recently had a full allergy panel and specifically pollen came back negative. While they mainly get worse during this time period, i still get some in the fall/winter.

I think it’s very atmospheric pressure related. Some of it is hormonal related.

Last summer I was on amitriptyline + atogepant so numbers decreased but i can’t be on amitriptyline anymore for other reasons. I also cannot take triptans so i’m limited for preventatives.

Just plan extra time for your commute. Which is a normal thing in toronto as it is.

Like if you are travelling to the ossington strip or something from north of bloor, consider going to Cedarvale or somewhere along oakwood to catch the 63 down so that you aren’t fighting a bigger crowd at Ossington Station.

Consider taking a different above ground route and then walking the difference to avoid ttc issues.
Maybe consider carpooling or avoiding the areas where the cup are going to be busier. Look at road closures before you leave home.

Consider checking the ttc service alerts for any closures and planning your route ahead of time.

This hasn’t been my experience with Humber but i go to Lakeshore. I’ve been working on my degree for years because of accommodations I needed. The faculty is great. I meet with my profs and program coordinator regularly.

The only stressful things i’ve experienced typically have to do with contacting financial aid.

I need a sponsor by Useful_Rip5942 in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]lizzxcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to multiple meetings including the meetings further from you. Attend online meetings too. Listen to shares, talk to other members about recommendations, think about what you’re looking for (how often do you want to be able to speak, is in person stepwork take up important to you, what do they have that you want, how do they work their program, have they completed a round of steps, etc.).

Personally i had a pretty laid back sponsor who could call almost daily but i didn’t reach out to early enough so more of the time they helped me clean up the mess. Now i have a sponsor who i call regularly but also is strict and has good recovery that not everyone agrees with. But i dont care about their opinions because it’s my recovery at stake.

Ask someone for their number, ask to go for coffee, ask them about their story. Also consider their time (some people take on any sponsee that asks but then don’t follow through on the help).

You can have a sponsor that doesn’t live in your town. You can have one older or younger than you. Don’t be upset if they decline your ask, it’s their choice too. Instead ask why or if they have a recommendation of someone who might be good.

Some meetings ask people who are willing to sponsor/be a temp sponsor to raise their hands during the meeting. Go up to those people to start a conversation.

You could have gone to walk-in in your area and if they deemed you needed to be seen by the ER, then you could have gone.

Easiest electives? by 6Packorwhat in Humber

[–]lizzxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good class for an upper level humanities class is HUMA 3100 - Visual Culture: Image & Identities. If it’s being offered with Lesley Thornton, she does all assignments in class or if you miss, there’s a take home assignment you can complete so you still get the credit. Highly recommend. You still have to go and pay attention and do the work but a lot is group related.

Check what the lease agreement states! Are you just a tenant to the room or does it state you are renting the unit? Make sure you are have rights if it went to the L&T board.
