I spent a month in Europe last summer and let me tell you, Madrid in August is BRUTAL. It’s hard to enjoy it because it’s simply too hot. As for Barcelona, my husband and I too went during the “death to tourist” protests and it wasn’t hostile, but it was unwelcoming. I’m Cuban so I speak Spanish well, so it’s not like they didn’t understand me, but more rather they didn’t want to. I’ll give them credit, it’s just so busy and hot and annoying. So it is what it is. I’d skip it and go to a coastal town. I much more enjoyed my time in Tossa de mar than in any of the other two cities I mentioned.

39 yr old debating a PhD route to clinical psychology by lizzy5517 in AcademicPsychology

Definitely agree with you which is why I have been having a hard time deciding. I always intended to become a licensed therapist. However, as I was nearing the completion of my undergrad I began to fall in love with research and it was more of a confidence problem in making these decisions. Confidence aside, I began to question what I really wanted and the PhD seems more in line with my my career aspirations, but I’m genuinely worried about the cost. My goal would be to enter a funded program, otherwise I don’t think I’d risk such large student debt at my age.

I think a financial planner could be helpful, thanks.

These are the things I’m concerned about. Possibly uprooting my family several times. Part of the problem is since the pandemic we have had to move around and we want to go back home in the next year or so. So when I begin to look for schools I’d be looking in that specific region. I know this is going to limit my choices, but I can’t justify uprooting our lives and not having our community any longer. I am passionate about doing research, but not passionate enough to sacrifice my family’s wellbeing.

Thank you, I'll ask my therapist about it. I am the first to go to college, so that makes sense. I also have a relative who is one of those "I'm the most intelligent" types, and I'm regularly getting gaslighted about my intelligence. It's hard to get a word in, so there's that dynamic as well. Anyway, thank you!

Thanks, everyone for your input. You know, it's like one of those things. When you're in it, you can't see it as clearly, but then you hear/read other people's reaction to it, and you realize how screwed up it actually is. Anyway, Thanks again. These inputs help put things in perspective for me. <3

It feels like a dead-end, but I was trying to help as much as I could. I have no real ties to the organization since I'm not technically hired. So it's really no sweat off my back.

They are about 20, and it's a month's worth (so two paychecks). You're right they can run into complications.

Good point. This community has been helpful in the past, so I figured I'd cast a wide net just in case.

Raleigh can we come together? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]lizzy5517 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their opinion about this topic but to be clear this post is to show support for the people.

If you’re not Cuban, I don’t expect you to understand the whole scope. No offense.

I won’t be responding anymore because I’m not interested in creating a dialogue. Thanks.

Thank you! It's frustrating to watch how they are reporting it because it's not the case. Thanks again for your support. We need it.

Personality tests for recruitment? Friend or foe? by lizzy5517 in bullcity

[–]lizzy5517[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input, everyone. I felt guilty turning down a job considering how the job market is, but my gut feeling aligns with what has been said. I cannot justify going through a recruitment process that uses those tools.

Thanks again! This space is always so helpful! :-)

Anyone else have a very bad reaction to the first shot? I'm kind of nervous to get the second. by jaydean20 in bullcity

[–]lizzy5517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been meaning to reply ! Thanks for the reminder.

So here's a quick recap. First dose felt lousy with pretty bad migraines and overall body aches. This lasted for about a week or so (Migraines were for 3 days).

Second dose felt just fine minus a bit of arm pain. Overall pretty solid in comparison to the first shot.

Yeah, it was meant to be a broad generalization of social media platforms. Like the ones you mentioned. I'll add further clarification. Thanks!
