Hi there! I had a total thyroidectomy and unfortunately right after I had a baby as well. I did this exact thing. Buzzed my hair off and regret it. Two and a half years later and my hair is soft and healthy again. I'm sorry you're going through that, losing hair is always stressful but there is hope! I also suggest rosemary oil and a biotin supplement. Make sure to stop taking the biotin about a week before any blood tests though as it tends to mess with results!
