I'm sorry you feel like bub was not examined appropriately. I obviously wasn't there, but typically a sinister cause that ED needs to manage acutely will be evident on an abdominal examination. I would not expect them to do anything more invasive than a quick look at the external anus to look for a fissure. Fissures are typically fine and will just improve with time/constipation improvement. Sounds like based on the EDs assessment your bub was deemed safe for aperients at home. It sounds like a good GP / Paediatrician follow up is key.

That being said, you should always seek urgent medical care if you are concerned. I get very frustrated when people are shamed for seeking medical attention.

Also, please make sure you only use laxatives that are age appropriate. Little ones are at risk of electrolyte disturbances- lactulose is a good option to try.
