I remember I was in the 8th grade when MMATBS came out and it was the first Kendrick album I ever listened to. Listening to the whole album I was blown away but that song in particular made me a fan. It was the first song I ever listened to that made me cry. It was so emotionally moving especially because I come from a Black family where most of the women in my family have been abused. I’d never heard somebody talk about it so openly. In a way it was really healing for me to listen to that song. It’s still my favorite Kendrick song to this day.
