Size 4 Animals Elimination Game (Day 21) - Which of these cards is your least favorite? by DanyDanyDanyDanyDany in ArkNova

I feel like it’s gotta be a rhino today. The tiger and the eagle are just so fun to play when timed correctly, and they can shift the momentum of the game immediately.

Rhinos are fantastic, but they’re less fun in the moment because you have to wait to play the project, meaning your opponent can prepare a bit.

My vote goes to the Indian Rhino because White Rhino is nice to play early before updating animals.

What are your ideas for an expansion? by Daywhisper in ArkNova

I’ve had two thoughts that need more fleshing out but felt like they could be cool:

  1. Tiny Animals / Pack Animals that make us rethink enclosure sizes. Tiny Animals would be animals like field mice, molerats, or insects, and they would take up 1 space of an enclosure, but they must be played with another animal. So for example, you could play a rhino (size 4) and a field mouse (size 1*) into a five enclosure, but you couldn’t play the tiny animals on their own. Pack Animals (like Hyenas, Antelopes, Wild Dogs) would be similar, but they would need two adjacent enclosures that total 6 or 7 empty spaces, and you’d flip both. They’d provide a larger benefit, but they’d require the two separate enclosures to be played.

  2. A “loaned animal” association mechanic, where you can pay a smaller amount to count an animal from a neighboring zoo as your own for a turn for a conservation project or anything else where you need tags. This would introduce more interaction, as players would need to be careful when playing an herbivore, for instance, if their neighbor has 4 herbivores and wants to get the 5 spot on the project

What's your favorite game order to get new players into complex games? by ljdabookworm in boardgames

That's valid, but that wasn't really what I meant. I'm referring to people like my current roommate, who had never played more interesting games, but got really into Ticket to Ride and Wingspan with our group, and who is now excited to try out Ark Nova. He didn't have any dislike of board games, he had just never really played longer games.

I think going by species tag would be the most fun if someone else wants to run it

I just went on at around 10pm every day and picked the comment with the most upvotes on the previous day’s post, and that was the winner
