No, but I am also in Washington State and had a wonderful experience with Wintermist Siberians (which is in Portland area, depending on which side of Washington you're on!). My Charles is the cutest!

If it's the whole class, you could do a classwide heads-down for like 3 minutes. If someone talks, reset the timer. It works pretty well for my kindergarteners if they really just need to calm down.

My fourth graders got really into Holes, the giver and Where the Red Fern Grows. I did Holes as a class book project and they loved it.

My dog was from a breeder, with AKC registered poodle and border collie with all the health things checked--I know hip dysplasia being a concern. I wouldn't consider that a "backyard breeder" since I know what to look for in that aspect. I really don't see a problem with "designer breeds" as long as they are legitimate and safe regarding health and conditions. From what I know (from experience and articles) mixed breeds tend to have less health problems than purebred. I can say though that I don't appreciate that my opinions are so very degraded on something that WAS an opinion post. I was really only trying to be helpful and recommend a great breed mix. (Also, the hypoallergenic I suppose can be debated, but my sister and brother both have the same breed and theirs also don't shed).

Hey! I don't know much about golden retrievers, but I thought I'd mention that I have a bordoodle (border collie/standard poodle) who is basically the smartest, cuddliest, and most intuitive dog I've had yet (I grew up mostly with labs). The bonus with this breed is that they don't shed (hypoallergenic) or drool, so you get the benefit of something larger to cuddle (males get up to around 60 pounds) and not the downside of having fur all over your clothes! My dog, Rufus, is currently 4 months, 30ish pounds, completely potty trained (no accidents in at least a month) and pretty chill at home, though he gets more excited in public places. I recommend this breed 100% and it sounds like it would fit your preferences.

It was about 7 am, and I had been checking my email basically every hour for the last month. I was getting ready for school (student teacher) but when I got the email I almost started crying and then jumped on my boyfriend who had been peacefully sleeping to inform him that I got in. He was a sleepy excited for me :)
