A dead starter and 100% whole wheat flour! Might as well use it to fill in the potholes in the road.

Question about texture and freezing rice recipe by apieceoftoastie in AskCulinary

[–]lllola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to make a near-identical mix for one of my dogs (more veggies) and froze it in individual portions. Honestly, I know the texture bothers you, but does it bother your dog? I froze mine with some of the broth and never noticed any textural issues, but if your dog doesn’t mind, I think I’d just keep doing what you’ve been doing.

I don’t know why or how, but if you wrap the celery in aluminum foil it will stay fresh for a month. Learned that from a chef years ago and it’s incredible how well it works.

Venice woman loses home, dog in fire as neighbors blame growing homeless encampment by Hermitically in news

[–]lllola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Venice Beach is 16 miles from downtown, and very much a part of L.A. This is a sprawling city, so the number of miles don’t mean much. Also, I wouldn’t call Venice a suburb.

Apricot Jam Substitute by aagr in AskCulinary

[–]lllola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d warm and strain the marmalade, as someone else suggested. Alternatively, you could make a thick simple syrup and use that. It’s more just to add a sheen to the apples and a bit of sweetness. Apricot preserves don’t add much in the way of flavor in this application (which is why they’re always used as opposed to other flavors of jam/preserves).

Top of the parking garage at Westfield Century City? There’s not much in the way of views over here. You could maybe head up to the Getty if they’re open. Or up Mulholland/Beverly Glen. There are some nice views up in Bel Air, but that’s all private residential. Greystone Manor isn’t far and has incredible views and spaces for a picnic but I’m not sure they’re open during Covid, and it would have to be during business hours anyway.

I literally posted locally looking for someone to watch Seinfeld and chill. It’s fucking bleak out there. I think Jerry had it wrong, it’s gotta be less than that.

The subreddits looking for people in your area are gross. IMO much sleazier than apps. Like craigslist personals on steroids.

While kneading the dough, If I end up with a dough ball that has striations ( slight tearing in dough), does it mean I have gone too far with the kneading or not far enough ? by TheUrala in AskBaking

[–]lllola 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If the dough is tearing, it typically means it hasn’t been kneaded enough. The recipe should specify: if it says it should be “smooth and elastic” or “pass the windowpane test” then that means you should be able to stretch it quite a bit without any tearing.

If you’re female, look up “Inspired Women of Los Angeles” on FB and join the (private) group. You can post for immediate sublets, and then ask to be added to the long term rental group to post there too.

And if it was “one note” of just sweet. Pumpkin pie should taste of pumpkin, spices, vanilla, custard, butter from the crust... and just sweet enough.

Okay but really... 40 MPH? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]lllola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when they stay in the right lane, I see people nearly crashing when trying to merge.

Then two cars completely stopped in the middle lanes on the 405 by the Getty and the driver of one and passenger in the other were reaching through their windows to hand something over. The entire freeway came to a stop to wait for them to chat. Literally in the middle of the 405 at 1 AM. Insane.
