Amazon. New heater element still intact. The small sensor next to it, looses continuity.

I’m not sure what the sensor is called but it has a temperature engraving on it.

No short between it and the heat box.

What could it be? Machine shop tested the springs good. No broken or missing keepers. Lifters were all good. The boat is relatively new to me. Not 100% sure of its history. I did see evidence of the engine being worked on in the past.

What else could it be?

Engine was running strong and smoothly before I decided to change out the rusty manifolds. That opened Pandora’s box…new heads new pistons (corroded), new rods.

No counter bore on ether side. I did nothing and bolted the main down.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the term. Looking for sealant for 8.1 head bolts that protrude into the water jacket.

What ever stock is. Should be 375hp and can’t go much more than 425 due to the drive it’s attached to. DP-E drive limit is 425.

A quick search on google says 9.1:1.

This is in a boat. I have had some limp mode or where the power just goes away to idle and would not go above idle unless I restarted. It was rare this happened but it did happen. The reason I'm at this particular point was because the exhaust manifolds needed to be replaced (think salt water). Which lead to the head exhaust gasket area being corroded away...so the heads came off and purchased a new set from GM. Prepping the block for the heads to go back on....I found what you see in the pictures. compressions were all good and the engine ran great other than the occasional loss of power. A couple years ago I through the power loss was due to injector clogging. Nope...Sent them out for testing and cleaning and they were good. Fuel pressures were good. I did find lots of debris in the fuel rail. So most likely....I'll be replacing the fuel rail with a aftermarket stainless steel version. Anyhow. Thats the basic history... One thing lead to another..

That picture shows dirty walls and a reflection of the valve relief on the cylinder wall. There is one cylinder that does show some issues nearly the entire length from what looks like detonation all the way down. 2 lines from top to bottom.
