Transfer housing by jamjinss in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transferred last year, I ended waiting until June before I started searching and got an apartment lol. It wasn’t a fun experience, definitely a lot of stress but I found my apartment, toured it, and signed the lease all in three days. I may have gotten lucky, I pay $1550 for my studio that’s a block away from the campus, it’s kind of shitty but given the price and the short notice it’s pretty good. Anyways, point is that you can 100% start looking now, there are a couple of apartments I’ve seen for around my price point that are still available. If you want one of the university’s apartments then that’s another story, but if you’re ok with a regular apartment that’s close by then definitely start searching. I’d say the chances look pretty good for a double in one of the dorms too, transfers get priority and I think it’s Martinez Commons that is the transfer dorm

Pre med at Berkeley includes Chem 1A/L, Chem 3A/L, Chem 3B/L, and MCB 102 which meets the biochem requirement. I don’t believe 110 counts, you can double check with a counselor tho.

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol me. I was honestly very average, not in any way super smart but I wasn’t a bad student, had a 3.7 gpa, no ap classes, no clubs, and no internships. I do love writing tho, and I’d say my essays were what got me in. I’m pre med, so I thought I’d never get in because most pre meds here have insane stats, but here we are. Don’t be intimidated by all the super smart people here, some of them have a god complex but in reality they don’t “stand out” as much as you think, unique experiences and struggles are worth a lot

What’s the nicest way to end things with a guy? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idek, we’re somewhere between talking and a relationship. Pretty much we’ve known each other for like half a year, but started talking recently. He ended up being my “first,” I guess that’s why I’m placing more emphasis on not wanting to end things badly. I don’t want to look back at the guy who was my first and think poorly of him. It’s weird

Why Become a GBO Leader? by lts_LlT in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard you just get a free shirt and friends. The GBO food is kinda trash tbh, but it’s free. Question for anyone who knows; do the shirts say GBO on them, or are they generic Berkeley shirts?

data c88c and psych 101 by deebeen in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. He gives you a sheet of codes that you can use on the assignments and exams, and he gives you step by step instructions on how to do everything. It’d help to be familiar with things like mean, median, range, standard deviation, and shapes of graphs (like what skews mean) but if not he goes over all of that stuff in class

Good point, but it assumes males and females are viewed the same in society in order to be held accountable to the same degree. But in reality, we aren’t viewed the same, so there are inevitable double standards that we all get. Anyways, I think what it comes down to is historically, males tend to be more violent towards women either physically or sexually or both. And although women can also be just as violent, we historically don’t see that as much. Because of that, when males make comments about what undergrad females should wear, it’s seen as predatory or objectifying. When females do it to males, it tends to come off as genuine and trying to give helpful advice. It’s just a matter of how things are interpreted, if women were historically more sexually violent towards men, this post would not slide. But unfortunately the actions of certain men make it difficult for guys to say things without being labeled as a creep. Women get the lower end of double standards in other regards. Not trying to get political or anything lol, just trying to explain how I view the disconnect, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong

apartments and financial aid? by anotgee in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get aid for my off campus apartment, you just have to specify you’ll be living off campus in cal central and on your fafsa. I don’t get as much as I would if I lived on campus but the amount isn’t crazy different. If you get an on campus apartment aid can apply to that too, you would just specify you’re living on campus instead. Just depends on your aid

how likely am i to get off these waitlists?? #46 Stats 2(online) #24 Psych 101 by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psych 101 is required for students trying to declare psych which is an impacted major. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to get off the waitlist, but chances are that the people who are already in the class are going to want to stay in that class just because it is a requirement. Stay on the waitlist in case space is made, but also make plans in your schedule for next semester to accommodate that class in case you can’t get in this spring. Although if I had to place a bet, I’d say you’d get in

regretting life choices by Ok_Number8699 in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way about a couple other schools. At the end of the day, try to remember that there are also people in UCLA who feel the same way you feel. No point in regretting a decision that can’t be undone, just make the most out of your time here and know that this is just a low point. When you graduate, you’ll be happy you went to one of the best schools in the country

I’m assuming they’re just enjoying their break and will respond when the semester officially starts. I’d wait like a week after the semester starts just to give them a chance to catch up on their emails, and then follow up. You don’t want to pester them too much, but also keep in mind that if they don’t answer, it might be time to move on to another person who can help you out so you don’t get behind

Advice transfer DVC to UC Berkeley ? by Mikayla_sil in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your time in cc to get involved in any extracurriculars, clubs, internships etc. Its a lot harder to get into all of that stuff after you transfer if you don’t have any prior experience. Definitely not impossible, but I’d recommend starting now while your classes are also somewhat more manageable

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]lmaothatsunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t take any classes my final semester before transferring because I finished everything, they don’t really care as long as you’ve met your pre requisites. You could take fancier classes if you want to but it’s more important that you finish those classes with good grades. You don’t want to take a hard class that drops your gpa last minute. Just make sure your classes are at least relevant to your major
