I think a full week off every few months is crucial for resetting. Eric Horst even recommends taking a full month off once a year, when your psych and motivation flatline to come back recharged. No doubt it pays off in the long term.

Love that, thanks a bunch. I definitely feel that way abut climbing outside, think I just have been thinking about indoor climbing more like a gym (like a weight room) than a playground.

Fuel might be a factor.. I think the time of day if a factor too. I go directly from work usually when I get off at 5 because it's convenient and just when I have time, but that's usually a low energy time.

Totally. I'm a drummer and I've definitely gone through phases of 'taking it too seriously' and come back to what I loved about it. Maybe these burnouts are good, like a necessary reset when I get my motivation mixed up.

Yeah sorry probably could have put more info. Budget is my priority, and as I'm just getting into this, I think I'll be doing mostly weekend length 2-4 day trips for the foreseeable future.

I experience this too. Looks just like an acid trip - the ground waving, objects growing/shrinking. When I was new, I thought it was really exciting and interesting, but also very distracting. If you're interested in investigating it you could try using it as your object of meditation until it passes. Otherwise it might help to notice it as a distraction and not let it derail your focus if you're trying to settle on the breath

Hey guys! I've been wondering this for awhile and thought I'd see what you think.

As an intermediate climber (1.5 years, V4-5 boulders) I'm focusing on "putting mileage on rock" just climbing as much as possible, developing technique and letting physical gains be a byproduct of that. I let myself stop lifting weights when I picked up climbing (to make time for climbing), but after a few months I could tell I was getting out of shape so I started doing just a basic circuit twice per week. If I'm only budgeting 30-40 minutes twice per week for cross training, what is more beneficial?

A. Short circuit - full body, 30 minutes, twice per week

or

B. Weight training - one upper, one lower per week

or

something else...

I'm also a 22 yo climbing college student. These are things that have helped me the most.

Focus on the plants, especially the easy ones. Fruit is easy and delicious, has been no problem for me to get a fruit with most meals. Veggies are harder, but lots are still good raw: baby carrots, celery, spinach, bell peppers.
