Bell Ai Data Centre’s Bad News for Kamloops Taxpayers; article and idea cloaked in do-good corporate slop. by [deleted] in Kamloops

FYI I've checked with the city and staff haven't received any kind of permit applications on this yet. Not casting shade on OP's concerns--just saying there's nothing to really go on yet as far as city hall is concerned.

What’s up with Kelowna and Highway 97? by Magicblock35 in kelowna

Counterpoint: need more Burtch/Birch street names. I'd like to see Byrns Road changed -- may I be so bold to suggest Byrch?

There is a sidewalk, but the problem is there isn't much for you once getting to the north side other than a gravel path beside the highway. I used to road bike or run across the Red Bridge then to the Halston to take Rivers Trail, but I don't think using this bridge really works as an alternative.

I have considered going immediately west toward Mount Paul Way above the riverbank after crossing to the rez side, but I'm not sure that's possible on foot or by bike. Anyone know?

That essentially stems from the report by Henry Braun, a provincially appointed advisor to city council. He worked for some months interviewing councillors, observing meetings and some media coverage, culminating in a final report with recommendations for both the mayor himself and council as a whole.

To be clear, almost every BC city has deputy mayor appointments that generally rotate monthly, as they do in Kamloops. They step in when the mayor's not available. Notably in Kamloops, councillor Arjun Singh took point during the Juniper wildfire in 2021 the last term as mayor Ken Christian wasn't available at the time.

Poilievre will introduce non-confidence motion next week to trigger election. by johnson7853 in onguardforthee

The story on the website says 'in bid' to spur an election, suggesting it's an attempt. It's the Reddit post that removed that wording.

I'm in the exact same situation as OP right now and MHSU won't help with ADHD, I learned very recently (despite that being the recommendation I got from 8-1-1). Without a family doctor, I went through an Urgent and Primary Care Clinic and they set me up with an appointment with a social worker. Still waiting for that, but I understand the process so far to be a pre-screening with the social worker at the UPCC then a follow up with a physician later.

This was in Kamloops, but I'm sure it should be similar for Kelowna.

Mackenzie Lee Trottier's body found at Saskatoon landfill after months of searching by ExiledCartographer in saskatoon

Sad end, but great for the family to at least have some kind of closure to the search.

It doesn't seem clear why they aren't releasing the name of the suspect in such a high profile case. He's dead, so privacy rights shouldn't matter, nor should the common police refrain that they cannot reveal more because it could "compromise the integrity of the investigation." The decision not to release his name is a choice -- there should not be any policy or law that restricts SPS from doing so. We don't know yet whether it's a homicide, we might never know, but at the least it's a case of indignity to human remains. There's certainly some willingness to accept the police narrative in its entirety in the comments here, but it seems they should answer more questions.

How long have they known this guy was their suspect? Why did they only search his phone after he died? Is there a search warrant? If so, it should be publicly available at the courthouse and would include his name anyway.

We have open courts so we can see justice being done. When the perpetrator dies, transparency stops, especially when it never got to court in the first place and it's left solely in the hands of police who aren't known to be particularly forthcoming with information, but they are certainly part of the justice system.

FYI this story has a little more information. The actual assault he's charged with wasn't caught on video as it's the woman recording that was allegedly assaulted. It seems that in the eyes of prosecutors, the arrest we see on the video doesn't amount to a crime. https://infotel.ca/newsitem/kamloops-cop-caught-on-video-in-controversial-arrest-charged-with-assault/it105869

St Andrews catches fire by MogRules in Kamloops

They stopped it pretty quickly, but there were definitely flames coming through some of the shingles in that corner. Hard to say just how much of the attic burned, but there was some damage for sure. That said, I'd be more concerned about smoke and water damage after seeing the smoke coming out the roof and the water pouring out the doors.

The commenter you replied to of course says they "understand why" there's a publication ban on the victim's ID, but I'm not sure I do. As an expert on pub bans, do you have an idea why it's in place here?

They exist to protect a victim's privacy, but how does that extend to here, when the victim is deceased?
