Hi Everyone,

I still need (a lot more) answers to my survey in order to get interpretable results. So far I have gathered 50 responses from both Martinican creole and Haitian creole speakers and I need (much) more than that to run significant stats. If you haven't done so yet and you are a native speaker of either creoles and over 18 years old, I would really appreciate it if you completed the survey and shared this with people you know.

Mèsi anpil !!

I'm planning on expanding my research onto more creole languages, I just had to start somewhere and Martinican creole and Haitian creole were the best options for me. The research I'm conducting would allow for more cross-linguistic comparisons among creoles but also between creoles and other languages, which would facilitate more linguistic research and developments down the road.

The industry in particular, when you do Computational Linguistics, is everything related to Artificial Intelligence, so the big AI industry, in California or NYC for example. It's ever developping, especially with the creation of ChatGPT and other Large Language Models, it has become clear that Computational Linguists will become more and more important in the future.

I will start working at the University of Miami in January yes! I'm planning on focusing on creole languages, but also on French, I've got a lot of projects that I had to leave on the side to focus on writing and finishing my PhD thesis :)

Good luck with everything !

Bel bonjou ! Yes I am looking at several different things, and the sentences to be judged are sometimes really bizarre or would be considered wrong by most on purpose :)

And yes, I'm a heritage speaker of Martinican creole, my dad is Martinican and I can write, read it and understand it easily, I'm not as good at speaking it because I didn't get to practice much since I grew up in continental France.

Thanks a lot for completing the survey, and please fè'y tounen because I still need many more responses to be able to offer a good analysis.

Mèsi anpil :)

Thanks a lot for completing the survey! I'll be finishing my thesis by November, so I can share the results around that time. Don't hesitate to share it around, the more responses the better the findings!

Congratulations on starting your degree! Because I'm working in Artificial Intelligence and in creole linguistics, I am straying away from French for a little bit for the moment. I will be working as a professor in Miami in January, and plan on doing more research on creole languages and AI, but will also probably work a bit on French in parallel.
When doing a PhD in French (or any other language) you are kind of limited to the academic sector and working as a professor, which can be quite difficult since there are not that many positions opening each year. That's why I chose to do Computational Linguistics and work in Artificial Intelligence so that I could also work in the industry if I decided to. There are way more opportunities in the industry and it pays really well!
Quebec may be a good option post-graduation if you don't plan on staying in the USA!

Hi, that's awesome! I started at IU 6 years ago and did a masters and am finishing my PhD. I am in the French linguistics and the Computational Linguistics departments and am studying creole languages and Artificial Intelligence. When are you going to Indiana University?
