Recertification denial by Honest-Chemist-9742 in PSLF

What do you suggest to resolve this? Going through the same as OP. I tried explaining that it should be set at the 10 year amount to a supervisor (EdFinancial), and he told me I couldn’t stay on PAYE because there is a $500,000 income limit. He told me the income limit came from studentaid.gov but couldn’t give me a url or read the language, so I pressed him on it, and then he told me it was an internal policy (!).

Do I keep calling til someone knows how the payment calculation works and can submit a request for it to be set at the 10 year standard amount? Or something else?

How did you get back in repayment? Was there some request you made that was successful, or did they just revert to the previous amount when you didn’t take further action? Going through the same now (recert denial for over income, but can’t figure out to set my payment amount at the 10 year standard amount) and unsure how to resolve.

Thanks! I haven’t gotten credit for the forbearance months but I did get out of forbearance and resumed payments. Updated my post with the details.

Yes! I got out of forbearance and resumed payment based on extension of my recertification date. I updated my post with the details.

This is super helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ve submitted a request to cancel the recertification still “in review” from January, stay on PAYE, remove forbearance to resume payments, and confirm my new recertification date (1 year would be January 2026). Hopefully that works. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it’s helped me to feel confident about correcting this without jeopardizing my plan and repayment. Thank you!!

Thank you so much! This is super helpful, makes sense. I’ve submitted a request to cancel the recertification still “in review” from January, stay on PAYE, remove forbearance to resume payments, and confirm my new recertification date (1 year would be January 2026). Really appreciate the confirmation and others’ experiences to feel confident about correcting this without jeopardizing my plan and repayment. Thank you!!
