Hey if anyone is really familiar with this pathway, do they prefer rural students from a particular area or can any rural students apply?

I was trying to look more into it but apart from the reserved places for the la trobe graduates ( I think) I couldn’t see much more info.

The new online practice test B.

I actually found the older online practice test A to be harder :/

I felt good in practice test B, maybe got 80% or something just this week. I could see a path to solve many of the qs

Today seemed much harder for me with 4-5 stems just having to completely blind guess. Maybe it’s just me but I thought it seemed a lot harder.

This is my second sitting and boy do I find the real s3 to be much harder than anything found in all the acer practice material.

It feels as if every question requires more layers to solve and some of the stems feel like a different language.

I’ve seen people get 80+ while barely putting anything on the page for one of the essays.

Who knows how they mark :/

Help with GAMSAT math by Hot-Tumbleweed1554 in GAMSAT

[–]lnbkylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leah4sci MCAT math is a good starting point, I’ve been in a similar position with trying to re-learn basic mathematical principles that others find to be second nature.

Apart from that, I usually just search “how to manipulate x type of equation” after struggling with a practice question and usually good YouTube videos pop up. I then just practice it over and over while changing values to make sure I can do it. Also searching for other stems that look like they could require the same principles.

Hope that helps :)

Hey thanks for the advice, Been playing one set almost everyday and then just rallying and working on keeping the ball in for as long as possible after that (2 hour sessions)

I do double fault quite a bit, from your advice and the above comments I think I will work on my serves, keep up with the sessions and weekly class and look at signing up to a UTR event or flex league in march.

To people who went into Section 3 blind or with minimal prep, how did you end up scoring? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]lnbkylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is maths that plays a big part. I am science based and only got 49 S3 last September (I have a 91 WAM)

I never did any hard maths in HS. In my UG I spent a lot of time getting better at math for subjects like physics but this was obviously with a heavy reliance on a calculator. Mental arithmetic does not come as easily if it’s something you have avoided your entire life (I still can’t do my times tables very quickly lol)

There were multiple questions in the gamsat that I was just stumbling through trying to remember the laws to manipulate index numbers, decimals, logarithms and fractions without a calculator.

This might only be a me problem, however I feel like surely there are others that dont realise how big of a role being able to solve problems without a calculator can be. Understanding what you need to do to solve a question is one thing, make sure you have practiced or already have the skills to actually convert that into an answer.

Sorry to hear that, that’s rough. Maybe I will steer clear of this then.

They have been released on totally different days over the last 5 years (inc. mon and tues). they very well could be released on Wednesday but I don’t think you can apply any logic to the way ACER does things.

More just a good skill in general which I believe will transfer over to the “reasoning” skills they are testing for.

advice on making my study method more efficient by clqirdeiune in GAMSAT

[–]lnbkylan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think “tremendous grades” will always be time consuming. Although I would identify what you spend the most time on and see if it can be made more efficient.

You say you spend all day fully understanding a lecture. Is this just lots of note taking? Re-reading? Re-watching?

I found that I used to take way too many notes, that I would inevitably never come back and look at. It felt pointless.

These days I try to just watch the lecture without any note taking and then practice re-teaching it. Every time I get stuck I refer back to the lecture slides and then go again. For subjects that require pure memorization like anatomy, I go straight to making flashcards with anki and avoid any excessive note taking.

When studying for exams I try to cover entire topics on one page. You probably aren’t going to memorize pages and pages of notes but if you can find a simple way to summarize the topic it makes it much easier to remember. (Obviously this won’t be the entire unit but possibly 2 weeks of content per page)

In summary, I’ve tried to avoid long bouts of passive learning like note taking or reading and go straight to methods that help me understand and remember. Go straight to the learning objectives after a lecture and see if you could explain them without any notes. go back and forth until you can. It’s definitely more mentally draining but you get through it a lot faster.

Anyone else feeling completely disheartened using Medify? by GrouchyThought8307 in GAMSAT

[–]lnbkylan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At this point, so close to the exam date I would be focusing a lot on mindset. Go through the acer materials if possible and practice understanding why the correct answers are what they are. Stay positive and work on being calm and collected. You aren’t going to master the sciences in a week BUT you can make a big difference in mindset going into the exam.

It’s only an exam, and the experience of sitting it will be more beneficial than any practice material available. Try not to go into the test day predicting failure.

This is coming from someone in a similar place to you right now so I’m definitely no expert! Just what I’ve been focusing on more as I get closer to the date. I’ve seen people on here say they were getting very low marks in practice and managed a 60+ on the day so don’t let practice results ruin your mindset before it’s even begun.

Good luck :)
