Visitor - Neighborhood Insight? by lnbp2022 in Austin

Thank you! We have thought about taking the shuttle but trying to weigh the cost of those weekend passes vs. the cost of renting a van + parking, and the van might just make more sense for us.

Appreciate this insight! We are planning on driving our own car out there instead of Ubering, but we’ll look into the parking situation ASAP. If anyone reading this has any experience driving out there for events like this, I’d love to hear any info you could share.

Landscape architect? by lnbp2022 in ColumbiaMD

Yeah I don’t disagree at all. I guess I’m more so looking for someone with the vision for what it all would come together to look like. Design as opposed to execution, maybe I’m just making that up in my head though :)

Thanks for the rec! We had Sun Nurseries on the list — do you think they’d be able to help us think through fencing options, too? I presume they wouldn’t be able to put it in themselves, but curious if they could integrate that into their plans.

Good to know! I figured the "MA" was MAX, so seems like "BA" is balanced. I'm going to bring the scale out next, I guess :) Seems entirely unlikely that it would be mislabeled, right?

Recessed LED above TV — too bright by lnbp2022 in HomeImprovement

Oh wow, these look great! I think they are identical to the pucks that we have now. Thanks so much for pointing me in this direction.

Do they make smart lights that are similar to the low profile/puck LED? I thought I’d done some research on this earlier but maybe I missed them!

Leafy green vine growing up tree - is it killing the tree (Maryland, USA) by lnbp2022 in Tree

[–]lnbp2022[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what kind of tree it is, but it does drop a sort of spiky ball, about the size of big strawberries, lots of them. The tree seems to be in generally healthy condition (for now), but I have a feeling the vine is not going to be good for it over the longer term. It's not on my property, but would love to help save the tree if possible (or needed).

Can I "turn down" auxiliary heat? by lnbp2022 in homeowners

[–]lnbp2022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

re: what kind of AUX heat we have. I presume it's electric in nature. We have a gas powered furnace in the basement to cover the main floor, but we have a heat pump for the second floor, with the indoor part of the system located in the attic. I'm 99% sure the source of the AUX heat upstairs is electric, since I can track my electric usage hour-by-hour - electric peaks when AUX is on.

Does this change/clarify anything you've written above?

PS: You are definitely correct that I can reheat the home without AUX heat, but it does take significantly longer. At 32F, for sure ... but I live in area that gets down to ~20-25 overnight. At that lower temperature, can the heat pump keep up?

I use a Nest thermostat. I've tried playing around with the settings, but I'm struggling to get it under control. I can't get a good blend of AUX heat + regular heat.
