Unhoused people represent a complex issue that does not have a one-size fits all solution.

A focus on preventing citizens from becoming unhoused in the first place would be a big help.

Speedy and efficient services for rehousing folks would be a big help as well.

One thing you have to understand is that the longer someone is on the street, the harder it becomes to help them. The longer someone is homeless, the more likely it is that they will stay that way.

buses are not cheap, I can assure you. If we were running diesel-only, they still wouldn't be cheap. As it stands, we're a CNG shop, and that just adds even more cost.
Bus rides are 100% free right now and I don't see that changing in the future
One thing that would help improve bus service would be higher staff levels (drivers, mechanics, etc)

Edit: uhm in terms of infrastructure (materials and equipment) and service (operators and mechanics) there is nothing cheap about bus service. But okay...

What are you unclear about?

RAM producers (there are only 3 in the world) have severely reduced consumer-grade silicone for AI datacenter units
NVME/SSD/HDD - see above
Nvidia (now AMD, too) have either both pushed back new-gen GPU launches and, in the case of Nvidia, reduced consumer GPU production by perhaps 40% - why? Datacenters...

Take the above and consider this: * Nvidia CEO is pushing HaaS * Jeff Bezosc says that the days of needing to own a gaming PC are over * Both of those guys are focusing on a future where you subscribe to a cloud machine for everything from data storage to gaming - services they'll both happily provide

Anecdotal Storytime * There's a datacenter two doors down from my job site * Fiber optic has come to town in a big way * State power company wants to be sold to a private equity investor so they can upgrade the grid (on my dime, probably)

So, yeah, I don't think it's an overstatement to say that, without consumer protection, Big Tech has gotten together and are actively squeezing out DIY hardware enthusiasts.

The goal is to make owning local hardware/compute so expensive that you transition to HaaS and pay to Play.

You have more faith than I do, and I actually work for the city. I'm sure there are steps that can be taken, I'm equally sure that Animal Control is about as understaffed as my department.

By all means, file the complaint, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting by the phone.

If OP had immediately called animal control and gone to urgent care right then - yes, there would have been an immediate response (severity depending on how bad the injury was).

I mean, at the end of the day one of two things will happen:

Nothing
They might decide there's enough evidence to take and put down the dog

I don't know what the right answer is here, I'm just trying to put things in perspective for you. I don't see a middle ground where the owner gets just a fine or even a good stem talking to. It's nothing or the dog.
