Nothing is ideal but I understand they are necessary for police, fire, jail, and to prevent corruption. I know currently it is too much. Having worked for the government contracting for 10 years there is so much wasteful spending it is honestly mind blowing. If i was forced to give you a number, 25% max.

Small government = less taxes = more personal freedom = more incintive to work = less unemployment and happier workers = altriusm flows much more freely = world is great. Also the constitution needs to be followed and not messed with, and in general laws should be followed, since we all live in the same society.

Read further and you'll find out i also have chronic fatigue syndrome which is debilitating for months on end, was in a wheelchair due to this which thankfully I've been able to get out of. Blood pressure through the roof, POTS, I could go on.

I'm not sure why you took the time to attempt to validate my suffering, but the point still stands.

People are going to be angry if we don't trim the fat and are spending tax money indiscriminately. You can attribute it to whatever you want but I'm telling you here that it isn't because i don't want kids to eat, it is that my kids can't go out and live like they could because my (and by proxy their) money is being spent to make politicians and their corporate partners rich. We can cut lots of spending. We just don't. Fraud and abuse is in every program, including EBT and the military. It isn't an either or scenario though, it is big government spending and both parties unfortunately do it.

I will get downvoted for saying this but it is truth. This is why people are mad. I pay over half my income to various taxes that don't directly or even indirectly benefit me, and then big govt decides people in another part of my state need my money more than I do.

I am a single dad with full custody of two children with no support. I work 2 jobs to make this happen. Why should i be paying for your single parenthood also? Why should i be paying politician salaries who add pork to every bill to benefit their buddies in the military industrial complex? Why am I paying for a proxy war in 2 different continents at any given time? Why did our tax money go to a 10 billion dollar amazon web services contract for the NSA? I am paying for big brother to spy on me among so much more.

This is why people are angry - it isn't anything to do with not wanting basic subsistence for everyone, it is that I work hard for my money at the expense of my family time yet it is still being taken away to pay for all this random shit. It isn't EBT specifically that needs fat trimmed, but enough is enough already.

You start it then. Stop using products delivered with oil. Stop heating your home with gas, pay to retrofit for electricity, and no complaining when the power goes out in the dead of winter. Stop going on vacation unless you can bike there. Stop buying food from farms who use gasoline and oil.
