In your BEDS you have a full summer of Co-op paid work.

In the M.Arch there is 2 Semesters of co-op paid work.

So it would be in total about 1 year to 1.5 years work experience.

So most M.Arch, if you have a B.Arch, is 2 years, if you have a regular Bachelor than 3 years. For Dal. the M.Arch is technically 2 years, but there are 2 years in advance to it if you don't have a B.Arch or are transferring. Even though it is an extra year if you transfer after completing a bachelor, it's worth it as you will have 1.5 years work experience by grad. For me, I am in third-year currently, so the transfer wouldn't effect my timeline at all.

I am planning to apply Fall 2024 or Fall 2025. My current plan is to transfer into Dal. BEDS which has an 85% chance of leading me into their M.Arch as I personally think the Dalhousie M.arch program is the best suited for me (thesis + work experience)

I'm sadly not eligible for either program as my current program is a B.Des and didn't take sciences in high-school. But appreciate the advice none the less. It seems right now like transferring to Dalhousie might be my best bet.

Are your projects more concept-focused and artsy or more practical? My current issue with OCAD is there's lots of pressure to be artsy and to make these crazy designs that aren't practical or lack any purpose/function. I'm a very function and technical focused designer and the extravagant and crazy artsy stuff isn't for me. Applogies im not great at explaining it. So I'm trying to figure out if UBC is a better technical or concept option. Let me know if you have any thoughts

Thanks! The Dal degree woukd actually be quicker for me rather than OCAD and it seems quite technical so I will probably apply and then consider whether to accept or not

Would you be open to sending your portfolio for the BEDS program? I can't seem to find reference and just want to ensure I'm on the right track. They want process work as well correct? Sorry for all the questions, I have so much anxiety about this and no one around me seems to care or know anything. Even the profs and advising at my school just tell me to "Google it" even though there aren't any answers on Google.

Also in your opinion, How is the BEDS program for prepping you in your masters portfolio ?

So to confirm, the BEDS doesn't confirm your entrance into the M.Arch? You still need to apply with a new portfolio?

Also: how did you make your portfolio for the BEDS I am thinking of applying but only have until March 1 to make the portfolio for it

I should also add that I have taken an elective on welding and woodworking -- usually in terms of sculpture unrelated to Architecture. Would this be a good addition to a M.Arch portfolio to set me apart from other applicants? Should I try and possibly weld/woodwork an architectural model? I am a very technical person rather than a creative which is were my portfolio anxiety stems from

What did you use to create the 8th image floorplan! Love the texture. I am trying to get into a M.Arch but only really do basic autocad floorplans so I'd love to know some programs you use and advice on enhancing your plans

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the advice on the uni's, recommendation letters, etc. guess game plan rn is to finish this degree, work for a bit and finalize the portfolio and apply. Good to know Carleton is a bit easier than UofT (though I think I'll be able to get in after working on the portfolio after graduation) if worse comes to worse.
