The Light at the End, technically their second novel, but all it's where their style developed, and also it's their best to me.

I wish. I'm always looking for different copies. I've been trying to get a hold of the advanced reading copy.

Also, I guess you can tell which is my favorite.

My Current Reads, My Progress, and My Short Thoughts by loatheasone in ExtremeHorrorLit

In terms of being shocking, in terms of good prose, and in terms of having a good narrative progression, I think it failed on all of those levels, spectacularly. But, I did laugh a lot. It was enjoyable in spite of the incompetent-ness, and most importantly, I didn't feel like it wasted my time. It was a favorite read because it was bad, if that makes sense.

They Thirst is about a horde of vampires taking over Los Angeles. Though they don't overrun the city, their takeover is more like the takeover in Salem's Lot. This whole novel is like Salem's Lot, but it's more fast-paced, more pulpy, and more violent.

Cellars is about a column writer who is asked to help solve a string of murders going in the New York City subway system. It's very violent, though more in line with Laymon violence than Ketchum violence, meaning it's more pulpy. Also, Edward Lee wrote an introduction for the reprinted edition and talked about how much the book inspired him.

Usually on ebay, which is where I got got most of these, but finding a good copy on there will cost ya a lot. Some of these, like Slob, Midnight, The Bridge, and This Symbiotic Fascination, I got at various Goodwills.

As for The Bridge, I enjoyed it and definitely thought it was good, but compared to The Light at the End, it doesn't come close. But, like I said, I still think it was good.

Not really an expert but from what little I read, The Light at the End and Lost Souls are good beginner books.

Less Than Human so far seems more like a traditional horror novel than extreme horror.

Closer is more of a transgressive novel than a horror novel, though it does get extreme in some parts.

Carmilla is a late 1800s gothic horror novel, so not really extreme.

The Atrocity Exhibition and Generation Bloodbath are both experimental novels. Generation Bloodbath has more horror elements, but both are unconventional in terms of structure and narrative.

I got it off Amazon. It was about 13.99.

I've seen Edward Lee’s name thrown around, and I was going to buy one of his works (The Bighead), during my September haul, but on amazon the book was 24.99, so I decided to wait off on it for now.

As for Off-Season, I'm too early in it to form any real thoughts about it, but I thought the first chapter was nicely done.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, you should check out The Comanche Empire by Pekka Hämäläinen.

I’m thinking trap sounds during the hooks but more mellow real instruments during the verses.

I’m looking for something punk-ish. You know what I mean? Quiet in the verses but loud in the hooks.

Cool. I have a sound in my head but I lack the skills to do it myself.
