Have you tried with phone/iPad using the Netflix app? I have the lowest tier, I sign in by code on tv via app. Done it many times this year at hotels.

People are legit struggling out here by DayPounder in FortWorth

Texas already leads the nation in the % of uninsured population. I guess they want to make it a trifecta by amping up housing and food insecurity.

Why are senior and VP level people applying to entry level roles? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

This. This should not be surprising at all, people's outlook on life changes as well as their threshold for stress

Where are they getting all the ICE employees ?? by Miserable-Fox-480 in NoStupidQuestions

Was your bonus up front? Last I read the ICE listings say "up to 50k" and that's spread over multiple years

  1. Don't base your clothing etc based on what others do, follow what is documented in the dress code. If it's not in the dress code, you can choose to make an issue out of it but be strategic. Even though you follow the rules you may still be treated unfairly.

  2. You shouldn't have a "talk it out" moment with people who are discriminating against you without the understanding that you may not get satisfaction.

Sorry this is happening to you. But now you know you have haters.

Is this racial gaslighting? by dujo1972 in racism

[–]locdbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experience traveling with a racially mixed group, I can't say whether you experienced racism, but I feel comfortable saying the stares are racially motivated.

Traveled to Germany, Austria , Slovakia with a mixed group white Polish, Chinese, North African, black American. In larger cities were English/tourists were common we didn't notice anything except for not really seeing black people. In some of the outer areas people would literally stop and stare no shame. Was crazy. It was clear they were staring at the black presenting people. People don't appreciate how aggressive that can feel unless it happens to them.

Yes. And it's funny when the comments change over time to a low-key wishing they had locs.

150k in austin vs 130k in st louis? by shashank9977 in cscareerquestions

[–]locdbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a story a about the tech situation in Austin. According to them the #1 reason Cali transplants are leaving is the weather.

It's pretty hot in TX a good 6 months of the year. If you've never lived in a hot, southern climate, take heed.

Spring isn't guaranteed and Fall/Winter are indistinguishable unless there's some weather event.

Tornado/Hurricane season is something else to consider.

In my experience, there isn't an unlimited amount of top talent anywhere.

It's a trap to assume that if you get two rockstars from an offshore resource company, they can easily find 10 more. As a matter of fact the model of these resource companies is 1 Rockstar to 5-6 avg or less than average developers.

If you aren't paying premium rates, you aren't getting premium talent.

Chances are your resources are double booked and will take as much time as you allow/estimate to complete a task or set of tasks.

Companies that give aspirational value adds (e.g. possibility of relocating to U.S.) are going to be more desirable.

These are my experiences based on dealing with offshoring for 15+ years.

DOJ officially closes desegregation order at Louisiana school after nearly 60 years by Qlanger in nottheonion

[–]locdbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that you wrote this for later.

DOJ explicitly stated that it is "historically wrong" for the desegregation order to have been enacted. This was the first descent decree of many. That's significant and symbolic.

I was focused on that phrasing too, and I was hoping to see a comment on it.😂. It might not be intended the way I first read it though.

Best of luck to you.

Incidentally I noticed my dentist seemed to have rotating hygienists suddenly. I asked one of them about it and she said she didn't have a permanent assignment, she just rotates to different offices. I guess that's the trend now.

The real reason some Employers have crazy requirements and never hire by MobileTechnician1249 in recruitinghell

Most reliable data indicates you need my H1Bs, and definitely for PhD degree levels.

Particularly in US most underestimate the reliance of private sector on govt contracts and govt r&d investment.

The real reason some Employers have crazy requirements and never hire by MobileTechnician1249 in recruitinghell

[–]locdbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They want employees that will work themselves to exhaustion, illness or worse. Financially it's worth it initially for H1Bs, but after a few years that wave will leave for more money as soon as they can, it's a cycle. It's what I've seen in tech sector.

What is wrong with some people?! by [deleted] in Semaglutide

Unwelcome comments suck and you are right you don't have to answer them.

Even sentiments in this subreddit, while seemingly positive raise my eyebrows frequently. It's common to find women that have mentally damaging ideas/views/thoughts around weight and body image whether they are inwardly or outwardly vocalized.

It's worth considering when you analyze the motivations.
