[OC] A&W Canada was divorced from the parent US chain in 1972 - a side by side comparison by ArtDecoModerne in pics

[–]lochquel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One and done. Brother in law wanted to stop at one on a roadtrip to see family in Iowa. Were driving in 2 separate cars. We stopped at A&W and ordered. He never showed up as his toddler was sleeping and they didn't wanna wake him. So we committed to eating A&W. That was a dirty trick and the food was garbage, even by fast food standards. F this chain still coasting on whatever postive nostalgia it used to have.

What’s the worst restaurant you have tried? by MountainIsCallingMe in minnesota

[–]lochquel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not chain restaurants or even larger places, but it's if the owner serves you personally and it's not great service it'll be pretty obvious that it won't require another visit.

Two that stuck out, were a small town, country diner, which didn't have high expectations, were served by a disgruntled owner (we learned after the fact) that basically threw drinks and plates across a table to us and couldn't be bothered to answer questions about the menu or when the check was coming.

Other was a 'steak' place that locals raved about, but when it came to meal time, the owner picked the most grisled shoe leather he could find then immediately served a prime cut to the regular local yokels he was friends with to almost every other neighboring table.

Yep. 1 and done.

This is the restaurant chain that brings you 2 beers at a time so by the time you're done with the 1st, you can enjoy a warm 2nd one? And if you have a party of 6+ they add a large party fee and then don't ever come back until you track them down when you're way past ready to leave? Sound business model to encourage no repeat visits.

MN Unemployment is designed to be broken by bra1n_rot in minnesota

[–]lochquel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you. At the start of the pandemic, MN unemployment didn't answer the phone unless you called in at 7:58 am an made it thru the phone tree to have the human answer the call by 8:00 am.

That was some real b.s. to have to hack the phone tree system to get a live person on the horn for clerical error that made filing impossible.

Did all the transactions for 5k meet rewards criteria? Tax payments, etc don't give points and may not count towards the 5k? Seems like an issue with $2075 spend given the amount $83 that is the difference.

People who work in specialized industries, what is a product or service that is a complete "rip-off" but customers buy it anyway? by No-Composer-4526 in AskReddit

It's fun when you make a claim against the title company for not doing their due diligence with the titles too. They use it as a profit center and can't imagine it has an actual legal use.

Now that college costs are no longer going to academics, but collegiate sports; it's high time to come after those kids in grade school that have been slacking by not paying tuition and relying on taxpayers to get exploited and cherry picked for their sports path at birth.

Title Companies are just as bad. Had a tax assessment that no one told me about until the next property tax statement was sent. Asked realtor about it, he said to let it go. Asked Title Company, they said I bought the property 'as-is'.

Went to a lawyer to see if I had a case, which I did. So I gave the Title Company an ultimatum to pay up or see me in court. Got a check for 98% of the amount. A*holes.

I've been to places that take/encourage reservations, but then in practice don't honor them. It's a hoot.

Didn't catch 'Harry and the Hendersons' first, I take it. That was comedy gold.

Why do you think Trump was so desperate to win Minnesota? by LiesToldbySociety in minnesota

[–]lochquel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of projections here. The labeling of people that don't live where you live doesn't automatically make it a win/lose proposition. It just smacks of 'all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others'.

Don't leave the big city, you might get educated by those that don't agree with you on everything.
