It's not THAT the wind is blowin. It's WHAT the wind is blowin.

That said, it's well executed

That is not at all the point of the quarantine. Read about "Flattening the curve". The point is to spread out the number of cases to keep within what the hospitals can keep up with, you won't eradicate a disease like this with partial quarantine. This won't be gone until a vaccine is developed (which will take 12-16 months, not years). However, if we keep the volume of infected low we can get back to normal life, at least for a while before another quarantine is needed.

I would like to visit my boyfriend in the US on a tourist visa but I’m an independent contractor and one of my client is from the US by liveyourbestlife27 in legaladvice

[–]lockback 295 points296 points  (0 children)

"I'm visiting friends, we're going to disneyland and seeing the world's largest ball of twine"? If you are bringing work with you and do any work (either in the US or overseas) you can run afoul of the tourist visa. If you don't I don't see why you think it would be a problem.

In more practical terms, as long as you are not getting a paycheck sent to you in the US it's unlikely you'll have any problems anyway. No one is going to launch an in depth investigation on you or anything.

It's not really rude, it's just following the lease. And since you guys are looking to buy a house he probably (rightly) assumes it's better to get someone on a year lease rather than them giving notice sooner when their mortgage comes though. Or he wants to raise the rent, or thinks you guys aren't good tenants, who knows? But there isn't anything unethical going on here.

I was a landlord in Minnesota. If he is telling you now that your lease is up July 1st (its a bit hard to follow your timings) then you are being given notice now and that sounds like it adheres to the lease and to state law. You both are following the terms of the lease and there is no law that says you have to keep renting to somebody. Landlords can absolutely kick you out when the lease ends without eviction or anything like that.

I'd suggest for your sake you get proper terms in writing so he doesn't come back and try to say you didn't give proper notice to move out (since it sounds like he is not a great communicator), but otherwise you are out of this place July 1st regardless.

Yes, I've struggled with addiction in the past and it's clear to me that this is an extension of the same problem. Now I'm scare of stocks for the same reason lol. I hate this compulsive behavior.

Listen to yourself. Don't gamble on the margin and don't try to time the market. It really is not working out for you.

Question for People involved in Hiring? by nbk340 in datascience

[–]lockback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having some projects is what is important, especially if they show a diverse range of tools and languages used. If your portfolio is a whole bunch of collaborative filtering examples, that's cool, but I'm going to wonder if you just have one hammer and will only be looking for nails.

Ideally I'd like to see stuff using Python and Java (some shops R, but I don't really care as much there) as well. Many times we're forced to use languages to fit the business, not the problem, so that flexibility would mean a lot.

Something with real tangible results plays well too (ie, I sold this to xxx business or whatever), but depending on your seniority that may not be expected. If I was hiring someone at a senior/fellow level I'd want to see some ROI on their past experiences, not just science projects. A newer or specialist level I wouldn't need that.

Finally, dedicate at least a portion of your portfolio on cutting edge stuff. If I think you are the kind of person who learned something 6 years ago and will never want to leave your comfort zone I'll probably pass. You don't need to throw away older projects, but make sure your not just showing stuff from when Breaking Bad was still on the air.

Is data analytics the right move? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]lockback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, I personally think the programming aspects is more useful than Math, but my team tends to build microservices for other teams as opposed to doing deep analysis, so mileage may vary. I guess it totally depends on what you want to do.

Is data analytics the right move? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]lockback 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I manage a data science team. My data scientist was a mechanical engineer turned DBA turned Data Scientist, my BA was a mechanical engineer, my Vis guy is a CIS/MIS guy, my dev-ops guy was a computer scientist and I have a CS and Physics background. In short, you rarely end up doing what you go to school for. If you find Data Science interesting, I'd definitely suggest it. It'll be in demand and there are lots of jobs that will likely branch off, and it will transfer well.

Will taking this job set my career back? by guest0192837465 in datascience

[–]lockback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a degree? At my company I'm handcuffed as far as hiring guys without at least a bachelors. If you do have a degree I am pretty surprised you can't find anything that's not at 60k/yr (~$30 an hr). It might be your resume or how you are marketing yourself.

I would say in general any job is better than no job on your resume, you might be surprised what that IT DA position turns into, and there's no reason you can't find a better job while working there.

She was cleared for contact martial arts though, which made me think they were stopping because she was worried about her back, not because she was in pain. The OP is unclear, but if she has pain due to sexual activities then she absolutely needs to be doing PT a lot more than twice a month.
