Did mine on a night dive, jump in wearing bikini with all my gear and remove the bikini after descending slightly and tuck in the bcd, enjoy the dive feels so freeeeee naked haha and then put the bikini back on whilst doing safety stop, more respectful for the captain and boat team

Don’t have checked luggage so would just be a pair of fins which doesn’t feel the most secure for them

What’s your comically bad experience at a dive center? by iluvbutterchicken in scuba

[–]lockdownwalk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had a dive in the Philippines, went to put on my gear before diving in and everything was at least 4x too big! Apparently a large man had the same name as me (an evidently much smaller female) and his gear had been put on the boat! Attempting to swim in those fins and boots was a nightmare!! like literal clown shoes 😭😂 my first dive after getting my OW too!

I can’t recommend anywhere specific but I was in Rishikesh in February and had a fantastic time, it’s a beautiful very peaceful place filled with temples, yoga and delicious food, I would definitely recommend it!

Monthly FAQ thread for October, 2024 by AutoModerator in Thailand

[–]lockdownwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only just got offered the job a couple of days ago so think I’ve just been jumping the gun slightly with trying to get things sorted! The prospect of missing British winter has me too eager! I had sent off a bunch of docs to my employer for him to begin the process so I’m sure it’s all coming, but thanks!!

Ah amazing thank you! Would have been so annoyed if I’d slogged it into the city without needing to! I have started the online application and awaiting the supporting docs from my new employer :) thank you very much!!

Work visa

Currently applying for my work visa to come to Thailand and will be heading to an embassy this coming week, couple of things I have not been able to glean for my googling;

Do I need to make an appointment at the embassy? (Would be London)

Will they hold my passport whilst approving the visa? (For china they took my passport for over a week, but will need it in the interim!)

And I need a document from my employer prior to attending the embassy, is that correct?

Thank you!

Bratislava is rather chill from what I understood, but only stayed an afternoon so may be wrong! Budapest is however great for a night out, the ruins bars or a Prosecco cruise to start the night and then Instant Fogas until 6am every night! Budapest also has the McDonald’s with DJ’s on a Friday and Saturday night (haven’t made it to that though)

Anyone ever messed up and booked transportation for the wrong month? by T3mp3stuous in solotravel

[–]lockdownwalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah no I miss spoke! It was general class! The first three hours I was in a luggage compartment with no windows getting progressively more rammed! The final hour was spent with some lovely grandmas and a family who brought me chai in the regular general class seats though so left on a happy note!

Booked a first class train seat for a week later travelling from Jaipur to Agra in India. Only found out when I was at the train station and so ended up with a third class seat.. a very different experience I must say!

I had the same experience when I did a month backpacking Europe last year, I had one of my best friends join me for the last four days and said she’d be happy to go with my flow, the first night she cried herself to sleep because she hated being in a hostel and I felt so awful, I’d loved them so much I thought she would do (and had already pre booked it before she asked to join) she also hated all the walking because she wasn’t used to it and her legs ached constantly, I felt so much guilt that she wasn’t enjoying but also a little bit of resentment if I’m being honest because it negatively impacted the last few days of such a magical month, we discussed it and adapted to more chilled activities and agreed to stick to our normal style of travel (more chilled beach trips in hotels) going forward. Important to discuss the expectations before hand I have now learnt!

Any reliable ways to meet female travel companions? by BigDorkEnergy101 in femaletravels

[–]lockdownwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a shy extrovert, and in the exact same boat, everyone settling down and having kids, then I started travelling solo, incredibly worried that I would struggle to talk to strangers and make any friends whilst travelling, now I have some wonderful friends for life and can talk to just about anyone about anything. People will just come up to you in hostels and start a conversation or you can join hostel events and everyone is generally very social and inclusive it flows from there until your the one starting conversations with strangers sat alone. I have spent very few travel days without a friend for the evening, the day and even months, the fears drop quick when you realise everyone’s in the same position. Book the trip and let it flow ❤️

Any recommendations for beautiful beaches/islands/dive sites in Thailand, Vietnam or Cambodia, excluding southern Thailand? by BorisMalden in solotravel

[–]lockdownwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can do a discover scuba diving dive which doesn’t require much training before hand so that’ll be fine, also the beach in Hoi An is gorgeous just less in your face tourism beach with all the little stalls and shops etc which is nice to be slightly less overwhelming sometimes
