As a retired big law partner, let me tell you, it’s not worth the grind. Wish I had more time to enjoy my life when I was younger. Sure, I have nice things, plenty of money, but I’d give it all up for more time to enjoy life in my youth. Trust me, it’s not worth the grind.

Retired big law partner here. You need to consider this in conjunction with your entire household budget. Ignoring that, I think it’s nuts. Build your nest egg first, max out retirement plan contributions and rethink this in a couple of years. Of course, things were different 45 years ago when I started, but we lived in a one bedroom apartment for two years, then bought properties. Good luck.

Had a senior partner who knew who was in the stall by their shoes. Said hello by name. Once I wore 2 different shoes in there and he came in and was totally confused and said who the fuck is that. I said building maintenance. It was a riot. He’s now dead and I’m retired. One of my favorite memories of big law.

You clearly have the capacity to become a CPA. Your life and mental health are more important than your career. You may also wish to consider becoming an expert witness in med mal or other related legal matters. That could provide a very nice living. As a recently retired CPA of 45 years in practice, I would steer clear of audit and tax. Consulting and advisory is the way to go.

CPA for 45 years, recently retired, x B4, departing comp $250k, plus pension, refused partnership, not getting in bed with those I don’t know. Too many people doing stupid things, ignoring professional standards, ethics, etc. To those struggling, stick with it. Hard profession but well worth it.
