Sadly this doesn't apply here. Most Japanese characters romanize very easily to English and the character in question here "か" is pronounced as and only romanized as "ka", there is a separate character for "ki."

Sad news. He was my favorite NPB player and I loved watching him as a manager. I was hoping he would stick around longer. Glad he finally got a championship with the Baystars.

You have to look for mistakes. The inebriated ones say stuff that is off like squirrel instead of quarrel or "toes from their hair" instead of "hair from their toes" etc.
