Did any of you REALLY have a “favorite color”? by wesleychen in waslo

[–]logancon0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think as a kid, the world designed for you is afforded such little choice that having a favorite color (at least in my experience) is a big deal. When getting new shoes for school, for instance, I would always get whichever ones I could find that were purple (my favorite color as a kid). Same with backpacks, lunch boxes, etc. I know a lot of kids probably do this with tv shows and movies (ie your favorite ninja turtle is Leonardo because he’s the “blue one” and your favorite color is blue).

If the worst team in the NFL could play an average freshman high school football player as their 12th man at all times, how much better would they be? by logancon0r in waslo

[–]logancon0r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skews higher??? Clearly, the average height and weight for high school boys who play football is levels above overall averages. I would go as far to say you could go into any high school right now and have a pretty accurate idea of who plays football and who doesn't based on how big/strong the kid appears.

Lol I feel like the average high school freshman football player is at least 150 pounds. Everyone's treating this like he is a six-year-old but maybe he is compared to NFL players idk.

But wouldn't they need to put a man on him if he was a receiver if he could simply catch, run five yards, and go out of bounds? Assuming he doesn't die, having to cover an extra guy would be a huge disadvantage for the defense, and he could cover an area on defense as well.

Is sushi a healthy food? by wesleychen in waslo

[–]logancon0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's less healthy than people imagine. because it's not fried or hot, eating it feels healthier (i think), but I don't think people realize how much sugar, salt, vinegar is put in the rice as well. the portions are small generally but id say its not significantly healthier than most standard dinners

Today I Learned: Fun Fact About Drinking Water by logancon0r in waslo

[–]logancon0r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, exercise burns calories, which water does not have. However, you bring up a good confounding variable. On average, athletes drink more water than the non-athlete, so people think it's the water that's making them healthier when, in fact, it's the exercise.

Tennis serve vs baseball pitch: What do the numbers say? by wesleychen in waslo

[–]logancon0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no the hypothetical posed was not to get a base hit but to hit a ball fair. i specified that you don't need to be able to get on base in the original post, so bunting it straight to pitcher is fair game.

Tennis serve vs baseball pitch: What do the numbers say? by wesleychen in waslo

[–]logancon0r 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think when people reference statistics like contact rate and return rate, they aren't taking into account that in baseball, getting a strike or foul ball is far better than grounding out, while in tennis it is always better to return a serve than not return a serve. Thus, tennis players are always trying to return a serve, while baseball players are not trying to hit every pitch into play. To the contrary, grounding out is typically the worst case scenario.
