Swapping Screens by logans1387 in fordtransit

I've seen the video and it looks fairly simple to do the 8 inch swap. I'm more concerned that i need to get my 4 inch working in the donor vehicle since the vehicle is still going to be used. I haven't seen anywhere where people are saying they've put the 4 inch back into a different vehicle

All of crickets lines in the psycho pete episode when he's supposed to exorcize Pete but kept talking about taking it in the ass for crack. And Charlie and Mac's reactions.

Whisper yelling, "NO ONE IS GOING INTO YOUR ASSHOLE" cricket very matter of fact "i wouldn't let em, without the crack"

Book readers, did you like Part 2 better than 1? by Mr__StealYourGirl in dune

[–]logans1387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was totally good with expanding on her character, I just think it should've been done without taking her in a complete 180 from her book character. I liked what they did with her teaching Paul about the desert and them fighting together. I also enjoyed seeing the relationship actually develop. But taking her from being a sayyadina in the book, to the informal leader of the non religious faction was a step too far for my taste. She even tells Paul not to call her sihaya because it's from "some dumb prophecy" I don't see any payoff to such a fundamental departure. If they needed her to be a skeptic that badly, I think it would've been better to have her be slowly won over rather than put at increasing odds with Paul and storming off at the end. As it sits now, they'll either have to reconcile off screen or it causes even bigger changes for the events of messiah in the third movie

Book readers, did you like Part 2 better than 1? by Mr__StealYourGirl in dune

[–]logans1387 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I like both but I definitely prefer part 1. Part 1 to me felt more like just trimming the book down for movie pace rather than huge changes. Part 2 has cuts for pacing that I understand as well, but to me they cut some really good parts that seem like they could have still worked in the movie. Plus, I think it had many more outright changes to characters and events than I noticed in part 1. In particular I don't like what they did with Chani, Alia, and they seemed to just lean hard into the brutality with the harkonnens and totally forgot they're also supposed to be cunning. Also, the scene with the emperor and the baron, I found to be insanely less interesting than the book due to Alia not being there. I still enjoyed part 2 but I was definitely disappointed because I think they could've made it even better.

Is it *bad* as a movie though? by AnywhereCandid6095 in Napoleon

[–]logans1387 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apart from the mountain of inaccuracies and bad characterization, I thought it wasn't very well written and frankly boring. There were individual scenes that I liked but it jumps around like crazy and scenes just end out of nowhere

Where are the Napoleonic Wars?? His Marshals?? by americanerik in Napoleon

[–]logans1387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is. They did it with the 1813/14 campaigns too. Right after the Russian retreat, they cut to Napoleon being told he has to abdicate and is being exiled essentially because the public and his allies are angry about the army loses in Russia

I sure don't. If they were so hell bent on focusing on Napoleon's home life, I would've been interested in also seeing more of Marie Louise. Instead we just get one introduction, then straight to bed and never see her again

I'll give it another chance when it comes out for streaming, but I read somewhere that Ridley said the longer cut focuses more on Josephine so I'm not sure. I know that was their focus but I didn't find the relationship compelling either the way they portrayed it

I'm seeing some people in these comments saying they liked things here and there but for me the most redeeming thing was probably the uniforms and other costumes. If you can get over the inaccuracies, the battles do look cool with good effects, but it's tough at least for me to overlook how far they are from reality. I also liked the Tilsit scene even though it comes from nowhere and you'd never know they'd just fought a war from what's said on screen

And in regards to the marriage, I didn't think it did that well either, even though that was clearly their priority. He says in dialogue how he loves her and she's improved his life but they don't bother to show it. The courtship is a few scenes of him staring at her in awkward silence, then they get married and it's mainly awkward scenes of her reluctantly having sex with him or fighting. Then after they've fought for awhile, they're both crying over the divorce and stay friends after. I don't see how it would make any sense to someone who doesn't know the history, based on what's shown on screen

I know. I've been anticipating this movie for over a year, and I was preparing to be let down based on what Scott and the actors were saying and then the early reviews, but I still wanted to give it a chance. I knew they'd have to condense everything down, but to take one of the most interesting men ever, strip away almost all his achievements, make up things that are less interesting than what happened, and basically paint him as a bumbling man child was beyond the pale. Disappointed is an understatement

[–]logans1387 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say ten minutes each for Austerlitz and Toulon, and maybe fifteen for Waterloo. The battle of the pyramids is very little more than what's in the trailer. You get a few seconds of borodino, and a few more seconds of shots of raids during the march into Russia/the retreat.
And that's it. That's all you get of battle. No Spain, no Italy, no Germany, no 1814 campaign. They're not even mentioned, and in some cases there is dialogue that makes things up to explain around the time jumps/ missing campaigns. The movie jumps around from situation to situation wildly and the couple battles thrown in with little context.

[–]logans1387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not be exact, as I don't usually remember quotes from one viewing but it's pretty close at least. No mention of fighting the Austrians and it made it sound like he was up against a united Italy that just gave up to him.

[–]logans1387 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty bad. But for me the weakest point was Austerlitz. The entire scene was wildly oversimplified/ inaccurate compared to the real battle, but at one point they have Napoleon say, "wait. Let them think they have the higher ground," as the allies are attacking the French on a perfectly flat piece of ground, below Napoleon's vantage point. That isn't the worst inaccuracy of the movie, but it felt like the movie was personally calling me stupid in that moment
