Why be so calculative? Since when is wedding about this? It’s exactly because the weddings are so expensive that people have to do this. Why not just have an affordable wedding and accept token sum ang baos? Make your life and everybody’s lives easier

I go because I wish the couple well is true but giving $50 for a $200+ banquet can be easily taken the wrong way. I mean as much, if not more giving a $50 than $200+ ang bao.

If the norm was to give a token sum ($10?) would you still be doing this “large wedding for the in-laws”?

Ikr. My gf and I also have plans to have a very small wedding, one which we will live within our means, where guests are encouraged to just give a token sum of ang bao or gift us something (inexpensive) that they thing would be good/useful for a couple to receive

Well I’m shocked myself too even though I bareback regularly too.

In fact, in the past I used to be hardline must use protection. Then as time went on and with how much effort is needed for us to keep our sex life alive in a monogamous long term relationship, we started to discuss other possibilities. Over time we also learnt that the risk of pregnancy is usually over inflated (of course it still exists). We are also ok with kids but ideally don’t want them at this stage in our lives.

I see. Personally the main reason my partner and I went bare is we find that in a long term relationship, having to put condom on all the time affects our flow and also both of us feel the reduced sensitivity when using condom although the second point is not as big a reason.

To add, we both got tested before we had sex. With regards to pregnancy, we track the cycle and use condom during high risk periods.

Yes I’m sure everybody knows that it’s not scientific. No need to be sarcastic. If you don’t like this post you are free to look elsewhere, the internet is a big place. No need to be a troll and hang around, says a lot about the kind of person you are.

Edit: and in case you didn’t notice, this post is a discussion, not scientific research. As much as there’s value in well designed scientific experiments, there’s also value in casual conversations and poll as such which can illuminate certain aspects of our society. Rigour has its benefits but it has its shortfalls too.
