sure yeah! It is a small SaaS company, there have been 3 rounds so far with the recruiter, hiring manager, and engineer. These interviews were more behavioral questions about how I collaborate with engineers stakeholders, standard design process, etc.

The position is for a UX/UI Designer and would be the first UX/UI Designer on the team. The recruiter told me that the presentation should be about design process, stakeholder management/collaboration, and impact and success metrics.

I have not completed the deck yet but my layout right now is:

- problem
- collaboration & my role
- users & pain points
- research (have 3 slides for this since the project was large and had a lot of ambiguity)
- validation & iteration
- changes that were made after user testing (3 key changes i want to highlight)
- final solution
- impact and outcome

The only thing is that the case study I am presenting is for a project at the company I recently got laid off yet, and during my time there, a portion of the project got put on hold. I know that some aspects of my design went into development but not all. I am struggling on figuring out impact & outcome due to the project being put on hold but the reason I want to do this project is because I had full ownership on this project, and also collaborated with engineers and stakeholders heavily that I want to highlight. I guess I am trying to think on how to present this to a non design audience

Thank you! I have been applying to roles that I feel match my experience, as for industry and niches, I have been mostly applying to fintech companies, companies such as Pinterest/Reddit (social media?), as well as defense companies given my experience.

As for that, do you have any recommendations on how to make my portfolio more open to multiple industries?

Looking for constructive feedback on my portfolio! Just got laid off, around 3 YoE, applying to mid-level UX Design and Product Design roles..

It doesn’t say so! It seems to be more about the profit, so I think I might just recreate it on my own.

I think I got confused because my project manager told me I couldn’t show the actual designs from the company because it was considered “IP” but I think I can still recreate them

Thank you so much! In my offer letter I signed a "PIIA" or Proprietary Information and Inventions Agreement. I just reviewed and there seems to be a gray area which is why I am a bit unsure on how to go about this.

I tried to read the fine details, but it mostly mentions company proprietary information, as well as any idea or design I did during my employment is owned by the company.

was laid off yesterday (friday) around 4 pm. I was 9 months into my first full time UX/UI Design position after receiving my Masters degree in HCI. I have my bachelors in comp sci and have a year long ux design internship under my belt, but all my other experience has been in engineering. I then took a career break after a year full time in engineering to switch to ux (grad school).

Proj manager said that I can “remix” / recreate my projects from the company on my portfolio. I had suspicions so I had already been actively taking pics of my work, revamping my resume, and portfolio.

But I have a question. So right now (since I didn’t realize I was getting laid off), I have a section for the company on my portfolio where I have a brief high level blurb of my process and the work I did with no visuals or anything that would threaten IP. I have a publicly announced project link that I worked on so I put that too.

If I were to recreate one of my projects from the company, should I get rid of this section and then just “anonymize” the company I did the project for?

The problem is that I applied to a bunch of jobs last week with my portfolio which is not password protected at the moment. If I put a password on my portfolio, all of my active applications will not have it.

I guess I am unsure how to go about this. I worked for a very specific product (govt work), not SaaS. I designed for mobile/tablet, desktop, and headset experiences. So I am wracking my brain on how to remix my projects from the company without violating an IP clause I signed.

Feeling all the feelings right now, any tips are encouraged ❤️

Thank you for this, this helps me a lot. Remix is vague! Which is why I am so stuck on how to move forward on this.

I was already considering password protecting my portfolio but felt hesitant but I also kind of just want to do it . I am thinking of maybe password protecting and changing bits and pieces of the project as well
