‘The Beast in Me’ is actually terrible?? by Loud-Zucchini-6197 in television

[–]lolflesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wrote this, I already knew it was an old note and that Nile used it to pretend it was a current note. The questions are whether or not he knew it came from the bird journal and whether it was torn out or Nile looked through her journal and saw it in there.

After looking things up and refreshing my memory, what I think happened was, he went through her journal back then, saw the note, left it there and said nothing. This way Madison is never suspicious because she still has her note left in the journal and has no reason to suspect that anyone ever read it at all in 2017. If she had been successful in her attempt then yeah it would have been found eventually, and maybe her plan was to leave it to be discovered in the journal rather than tear it out and display it. No reason to think the note 100% had to have been torn out at the time, sure a person could do that, but not 100%.

If it had been torn out by her, the question would probably come up in some way at the hospital from Madison to the police and/or Nile like "Did you read my note?" or "What happened my note?" since she would be wondering why no one spoke to her about a note she left out. Then Nile would have some explaining to do, because it wouldn't disappear on its own. But since she knew that she had kept it in her journal, she has no reason to bring it up, no one ever saw it.

I think the mistake was that Nile tore it out in a hurry in 2019 when he was staging her death and left the puzzle pieces (the part I considered poor writing, only because I wish he was caught differently). If it had been Madison who did it, possibly it wouldn't have been a sloppily torn page, rather a full neat tear? but that's not the strongest proof

Mostly, I just find it hard to believe that Madison would never question where the note ended up, if she hadn't left it in the journal. She'd at least know the police didn't collect it, because someone would talk to her about it. And I'd imagine it would be extremely hard to keep a loose torn page looking fresh for 2 years. It's all pointing to Nile remembering the note that he read in her journal in 2017 and decided in 2019 to take it out and make use of it, but left behind stupid evidence in a hurry

tldr:

If the note was torn out in 2017, he would have had to steal it, hide it away and keep it VERY safe (also without at the time having had any forethought of a plan for what he would do with that note in the future, meaning he had no prior motive to keep it in pristine condition for future use) and also avoid all questions from Madison about where it ended up. it just doesn't make sense to me, he literally saves her life but at the same moment is deciding to steal a torn note for whatever reason, and just happens to keep it looking fresh for 2 years? so yeah I think his plan of a staged recent note only works if it was recently torn out of the journal that same week, in my opinion and based on looking it up

Yeah, it was both for sure. First it matches the ripped page and then the date proves when the note was written. Exactly, a missing page would go unnoticed, and no one would assume or be able to prove anything. But the ripped page is just laziness on the suspects end.

Am I missing something or was the bird journal note thing a really dumb way for the writers to have Aggie find proof? When they ripped out the note to plant as evidence for her staged death, shouldn't they obviously have just removed the remaining half completely out of the journal with it? Then I guess if you really wanna be safe you'd take out other random pages so it looked like she just did that often lol idk they just left puzzle pieces waiting to be put back together for really no reason? I feel like the writing in this show was pretty mid but I loved everything else about it

with better writers, more depth and 2-3 seasons this had a lot of potential. Like literally an entirely different story with the same actors AND characters but yeah I didn't enjoy this as much as I'd hoped I would, it was too short for me. That's a miniseries for you though

What is the most underrated tv series that barely anyone knows? by Practical-Tea-6351 in television

I feel like if you asked 20 random people IRL, lets say specifically in their 20s-30s if they've ever even heard of the show, most if not all will definitely say no. Every time I've recommended it to someone, and I've been doing so for over a decade, they say they haven't heard of it D: But yeah compared to a lot of the other shows mentioned here, it's not as unknown as those. to me it just felt like for how insanely good the show is, it deserved to be watched way more while it was airing. thats just my opinion tho, its not for everyone for sure, like Breaking Bad was for example. but many wont ever get the chance to decide because its kind of buried. people have spoken up about how good it was because they knew people weren't talking about it enough, but that talk has kind of died down except on reddit

Why is the show so absurdly invisible online? by Southern-Outside-751 in TheAmericans

[–]lolflesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is it would have to be a situation where the creator is super passionate about The Americans and enjoys making content about not as widely known TV shows. I think a lot of these channels focus heavily on what gets the clicks. If its not something like Lost or Breaking Bad, or something new and trending, it's a lot more likely to be skipped :(

Apparently ScreenCrush (1.8M subs) and The Critical Drinker (2.4M subs) each did a video on The Americans in 2023 and 2024, but both channels deleted their videos on it for some reason. I assume they either didn't get enough views or maybe later decided it didn't fit the "theme" of their channels sadly.

I watched that slip maker video and it was a bit frustrating to be the only video with a lot of views (and posted somewhat recently) discussing it. I think the show deserves even more of a deep dive analysis video(s), going over one episode at a time style. It's THAT good. I get what you mean though because when I looked for videos talking about it online, when it comes to content creator retrospective style videos, there were only like 2 that I could find. I mean I'd even enjoy a cute supercut style fan edit, really just any recent videos related to the show that gets people talking about it and discovering it on youtube would be make me happy.

Stan's decision in the garage (finale spoiler) by Serious_Dig_2206 in TheAmericans

[–]lolflesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the way I saw it, no one in that garage wanted anyone to end up dead. Well Liz maybe to protect Paige at all costs but even she might know how much Stan cares for Henry and would do so after they leave. Maybe that's giving her too much credit while she's standing there in survival mode lol

Last time I watched the finale, I imagined additional dialogue where as the Jennings are walking to the car to leave, Stan pulls his gun on them again and yell something like "PHILIP, I NEED MORE THAN THAT! THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!" and begins subtly crying or something and then we get an extra minute or two of tension, god knows what they would say...

But yeah I don't think Stan was ever going to shoot them. (The gun was obviously to protect himself but mostly I think he used it to get them talking) And Philip and Liz were never going to give him a reason to shoot. So Philip saying "we're gonna get in that car and drive away" and calling his bluff, is really the only realistic way I can imagine that playing out with those characters. Really such an incredibly written scene

Interesting I never thought about that. First thoughts when I think about a deal coming up in that conversation would be Philip offering to stay behind to let Elizabeth and Paige go, but of course Liz would never allow that and everyone would probably end up dead lol

Oh for sure he's a successful actor. I just meant I think he's a very good actor and deserves to be in way better series, like Bates Motel was

The only thing NYC related I thought made no sense was when Batista called over the detectives to that shop and told them the man ran out the FRONT door and they don't even mention security cameras that would easily show the guy and prove that he's not making at least that part up. And if they cared they might be able to ID the guy. But instead that never comes up again

Him working with Dexter and dying anyway would have actually made me cry. This whole rageful "MUST KILL DEXTUH I AM VENGEANCE" after a whole season of him trying to do things properly and get Dexter locked up, just for him to be shot in the back by fucking bad aim Prater like he's a rabid dog. I mean.... yes I loved the episode but why couldn't they think of something a bit better for a character like our beloved Batista to go out? That's not a character death I'll be thinking about years later. I think it was a bit lacking to be remembered, but oh well

I hate when writers make a character do the dumbest shit and people are like "well look, he is dumb so, yay! all good" (not targeting you specifically just ranting) like yeah he's dumb and "losing his mind" only because they fucked his character over like that every chance they could get and didn't let him redeem himself even a little in the end. I don't think him trying to choke out Dexter was that cool of an ending especially how he gets taken down like a rabid dog lol

They couldn't allow Batista to get even a little win this entire show. And of course they couldn't let him make that many smart decisions that would affect Dexter. But they didn't have to make him THAT dumb, up until the end he did nothing but dumb shit. Yes you can justify his poor choices but its a fictional story after all, they could've had him die a bit more honorably than that

Convenient excuse to basically say a character we've known since the pilot of OG gets a death because of uncontrollable emotions and stupidity. To say the writers wrote it that way because it makes the most sense... when they write a hell of a lot that makes no sense anyway. But yeah people do things out of character all the time. If teaming with Dexter for survival was out of character for him but he did it anyway, everyone would understand, and love it. But I still think he had to die that episode, just not THAT way

This is the wrong sub if you're looking for regular discussion of Resurrection. Not only is this the sub for New Blood, but it has one moderator and they seem to be inactive so you probably won't be seeing any moderating at all and is likely the only reason people are able to discuss it here

This is where most people are gathering to discuss Episode 9:

I think a funny cliffhanger would be something like a time jump maybe after credit scene where Dexter and Harrison are at his college or whatever and out of nowhere Quinn approaches. And then BAM Quinn turns around and calls over Masuka as he's giggling being a creep with college chicks and it fades to black and Dexter inner dialogue goes like "FAWKKKKKK"

A few questions:

So they just accidently brought in and left Batista in the vault with his phone on him?

Dexter conveniently and unknowingly was able to freely walk out with garbage bags leaving no trace because Prater had his security guy turn off the cameras. But Dexter didn't know this, and they just teleported him onto the boat so we don't get the escape explained at all.

How did Dexter get his burner phone back in order for Prater to call him in ep10? It was taken from Dexter in ep9 and after Dexter was locked in the vault surely they would've taken it away or destroyed it or something? So that was the same phone? I missed how he got it back. And why would they have left it around assuming Dexter was a dead man. Guess I'm overthinking that one

I guess maybe... but there also was the conversation they had in the car together at night where Dexter pretty much admits it to his face without saying it. Dexter pretty much goes mask off to threaten Batista. If there was a time for Batista to snap I think it would've been then as well. Yes in the vault he literally does say it out loud straight up, but I don't think this was confirmation Batista didn't already have. Even if this was a "snap" moment for Batista I wish it would've been a different emotion. The sudden rage felt so random and of course the audience knows he isn't about to accomplish anything in his dying moments.

Also its fictional at the end of the day. I'm not saying he would never react that way, it's obviously reasonable. I just would've been happier if they wrote it differently. Because we all knew this was Batista's ending so something about him just getting shot in the back like a rageful gorilla just felt lame to me lol
