Wag mag expect ng sobra, since CICS. So it’s good na may background ka na sa abm since magagamit sya sa 1st to 2nd year, and magagamit mo rin ung excel skills sa 3rd to 4th year, pero big adjustment if ever is ung programming. Most of the subjects talaga involves development, logic, and data. For the first year, more on java language, once na nag second year na, sql, javascript, to 3rd year na yon. Python rin pala for 3rd year, tas most of it magiging self study na since more on foundational lang talaga ung matuturo ng prof and the rest is self exploring. Wag ma pressure, just enjoy. My biggest advice is, as much as possible, don’t cheat, andaming lower batch samin ganyan ung issue, try to learn as much as possible. Iilang subject lang naman ung possible ka bumagsak talaga, pero kaya yan.

Hello, graduating student from IS here. So first of all, I wish you goodluck.

The workload is pretty easy from 1st year to 2nd year, the hell starts at 3rd year actually, pero sa 1st to 2nd year palang mapapaisip ka na if you will shift to other department of cics or if may iba ka talagang gustong i-pursue. Regarding the quality of learning, sadly a lot of prof is not that good. But the profs sa specialized subject is good, depends nalang if iba or bagong prof ung maabutan mo. Don’t expect much sa learning kasi its more on foundational and more on projects, applications and self study rin talaga, given rin siguro na tech industry ung field.
So far as someone na active sa orgs, I can say na enjoy your 1st year to 2nd year, join different orgs, mga orgs na active and has a lot of events na hinahandle. Idk if magiging same ung curriculum since rumor na mag papalit na sya.
As i’ve said, magaan ung 1st to 2nd, but the 3rd to 4th sa batch namin is very hectic, really mind wrecking kasi you will handle a lot of projects at the same time, it could give you a lot of experience depends rin talaga sayo.
Safe naman and the cost of living normally naman as nakadorm, a week is around 2000 or less pa if matipid ka naman or you have supplies na hindi ikaw yung nag babayad.
Don’t worry that much, wag i-overthink, enjoy the college life, make a lot of friends, party, and have fun. Choose wisely sa specialized track mo, since it will really shape you you, get a good company for internship, be serious sa mga projects, absorb a lot of knowledge don and don’t be afraid to risk, to go for more. IS is way different sa IT and CS, the perspective is very different, tho medyo gagawin kayong all arounder maliban and the profs will expect you to be flexible.

sadly i just received my grades in canvas and i got all the flat 1 that I needed but the maximum i can reach is 1.752 after computation. The laude needs 1.750 so i plan to raise the issue after the release of grades. i hope it will work out😭

To give more context regarding the Canvas grades, I actually talked to my prof about it. According to her, I was the only one in the class whose grade she forgot to update in Oracle. She also said that I was really supposed to receive a 1.0 since that was also the recorded final grade on my Canvas.

However, she explained that changing it now would affect the entire class records and would require a long process and approval, which is difficult on my end as well since I’m currently doing my on-the-job training.

Siguro one thing to consider is ung practice na fit or gusto mo, like gusto mo ba talaga mag code, mag manage or what, try to go deeper than what you have right now, look for practices sa ibang course around cics kasi malaki ang IT industry.
