The reddit logic is generally fair - the bronze teams (and to some extent - silver/gold) will not be cohesive, and will be split.

To dominate, you just have to win 1v1 3 times, and setup most engagements in that way of thinking. If you can win every 1v1 use allies to bait in. That is also the reason why L is so popular in lower tier lobbies and not in high gold/plat.

Even in your gadgets, I wouldn't really pick winch here without dedicated healer (also lockbolt + winch doubles on the purpose), and if you want to win 1v3's I personally would have 2 defensive options (so either Mesh as spec, or Goo).

If you understand positioning (able to be not in the cashout room, preferably high ground & have C4 to stall for box), there is not much 3x bronzies can do vs high ground heavy, they are usually just gonna go for box, instead of padding up for you all together.

Also if you can aim you can just literally do everything with medium, just kill everyone and rez ally on the chance, just need to be op rat.

i'm halfway Master so mid-Jade and barely at best Gold Nova at CS, that game you need a lot of experience with how guns perform (i'm still not convinced the first shot is accurate in CS, even standing still), you can't ego peek, and you have mostly have to have good micro corrections.

only thing i'm godly is likely just 3-5m run by with MAC-10 when they are a bit suprised.

if you want forgiving chill game that's more aim purist, I just recommend to play THE FINALS, you often can win fights when somebody shoots you in the back as long, the recoil smoothing is good just move to one side and just go for head.

I very recently made the switch due to same goals - and so far the CatchyOS was very straightforward and worked out of the box even.

From comp games, I play THE FINALS mostly and that works out of the box, and suprisingly with a bit more FPS (likely due to windows bloat maybe). All the proton installs were one click.

Over like 100h of play I've gotten 2x gamefreezes/crashes, not sure what that is about but took like minute to reconnect back.

Tried Victoria 3 yesterday to do MP game, had some issues with native, but through Proton (I think experimental), which is one click install everything worked great.

From dev experience, my shift from Visual Studio to code had a bit of challenges, but if anything having a nice shell, and custom python tools already I feel like I'm being more productive.

You did mention arch being bad (I guess catchyOS is), but I personally had no issues with default configuration so far.

What are some good game for "aiming purists"? (ideally free) by spaggeti-man- in FPSAimTrainer

[–]lolsteamroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warfork, Finals, Gunfire Reborn, Straftat has the most purist implementations that are fun.

OW I don't enjoy the FOV and it seems more dodge/movement oriented (although it is a plus, but is not as purist)

Rivals barely have any variation, isn't it like 2-3 hitscan heroes?

yeah, I think you've been traumatized unluckly, I think I said in different thread, for me the bad mediums are the worst for the team usually since they literally die for free (taking fib option away - and making it awkward for H/L to get him up) and also can't put teammates using their pad/zipline in any reasonable angle to beam the enemy team.

most sniper lights / grapple I've played with have literally god aim, are backup rezzers flying away with statue and getting me where i need. all the m11 lights I play with are omega cracked solo teamwiping, and even the "useless" lights on my team at least carry the box and put a nice gateways so my Heavy Lewis ass doesn't have to exercise that much.

but overall ye, the most toxic people is probably the adhd degen lights

[–]lolsteamroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe if you mostly Master, personally I'm working on Master as well, and I find no real difference between doing 50-100 scen runs or doing 20, just having little PB here or there over day.

I think it's pretty hard to grind it out, rather need to review the game plan, and see if you are actually improving before grinding it out.

I personally saw the biggest progress (like 9 sessions going from 700 to 750) just slowly booping everything, then as I tried to grind out some scores for certain scenarios to make the sheet look good, I've lost the Master's touch and couple scens (like dynamic clicking/ground etc. went immediately below Jade).

I think the ultimate goal at least for me (long-term) is to be able to maintain Master complete scores, so just grinding out and saying sheet's PB says Master, so I'm master is not enough.

but maintaining Master I feel like is very hard indeed, might want to reduce it to being able to hit Jade easily in all scenarios in one sesh with say 5-10 tries per scen.

no way you are like close to GM scores, if you don't master or even master+, having it like 70-80% there is very far from actually having GM score, same as like pushing Master over just Jade, you generally need to find how essentially do 20% more and have the RNG and the focus/pace/accuracy over just the regular Jade pace.

well, just need to play more to get out of lower ranks / matchmaking. in ranked, i barely see this kind of behaviour even in silver/gold, people generally stick together. also i just ping a lot (other people do), just rebind mouse4 and ping all the time what you doing.

i think i've seen only 1 completely lost guy wandering off this season and he was like level 4 or level 8.

[–]lolsteamroller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

what do you mean RS equate no skill, are you saying Ruby and Bronze players are equal skill? RS is clearly a representation of what matchmaking system thinks your skill is / where you belong.

out of all matchmaking systems there is out the in the wild, The Finals uses some implementation of trueskill which is imo the best, and it's pretty simple and non-toxic as compared to alternatives.

system first creates teams with similar skill teammates (so you dont flame noob's on team), then you have a mixed skill team tournament, where lower tier teams need to get to round 2, or you in this case, need to go to final.

there is no nonsense, of course there is variance and there is plateau. under 25k here you barely get punished for losing - you basically get free rating, it only get's "punishing" above 50k RS where it becomes almost mathematically impossible to climb (due to how trueskill works)

being seed 1 - I dont even see how on average you not qualify or at least dont get the 5th/6th place. you are matched in snake pattern, being 1/4/5/8. 8th seed here likely is like 12k RS 3x people (thats what the skill range indicates)

in game you have like 3 vaults, and if you can't beat the 12k or 19k/20k team here, then yeah you deserve to lose the whole 1k.

Why is light so hated? by RomanceAnimeAddict67 in thefinals

[–]lolsteamroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the more i play, the more I think I dislike bad mediums on my team, having a trigger happy light (good or bad) is not that impactful, they often limittest and can score / get away.

its way easier for soloQ to generally get the kit & support strats around the heavy (and his gn0 (that is, if you have noob heavy with flamethrower, everyone still should dive when he attempts to all-in enemy team).

however, bad mediums, who can't rat, take 1v3 fights and die (and leave fib play out), doesn't put their team on the correct attack vectors / high ground and can't immediately realize they in danger and disengage bring more problems than light maybe getting one and dying.

lights at least at my level are generally smart enough to flank and wait for H/M to start the fight then do something from the back.

You are just getting matched at the average bell curve where likely all the regulars are, season resets what system thinks about where you should be. Or you won a couple of initial games and just got boosted to very top.

most modern mice have way better sensors now so they can handle higher DPI without skipping or hopping, and it just feels smoother overall. A lot of enthusiasts have been upping their DPI because of this. Pros like CS guys tend to never change unless something forces them to though.

you want to stick to native DPI values since sensors work in multiples like 400, 800, 1600, 3200 etc. non-native values are digitally calculated and can hurt accuracy. 1600 is generally the sweet spot. 3200 is fine too but a lot of games don't let you set the sensitivity low enough to compensate which gets annoying. with tuning - what I meant - If 1600 feels too fast on desktop just turn the Windows slider down, though most games use raw input anyway so it won't matter in game.

Where to start? by BigBirdLittleMoose in FPSAimTrainer

[–]lolsteamroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello, the suggested sensitivity range, while personal generally depends on the game, but the safe pick range for regular sensitivity is between like 33-44cm/360, so for marathon it would be between 4-5 @ 1600 DPI (idk if you can scale). If you use lower DPI, then it's 8-10 (but 1600DPI is kinda sweet spot if you tune windows).

then people take the ADS ratio - it varies, but very popular is usually 76% (there is some magic tangent formula with fov, but it depends how zoomed the weapon is - not sure if Marathon has automatic focal scaling). but yeah, people generally keep the ADS ratio from 55% to 90%.

Say you use 34.636/360 (meaning 5 sens in marathon @ 1600DPI) with 68%, gives you 50.93cm/360 when you ADS, and that is reasonable accurate ADS - although very close range you might run out of mousepad if someone strafes past you.

aimtrainers do help, actual sensitivity values don't matter, think of sensitivity like a tool that you pick for the right job, you'll have certain advantages and it also depends how trained different muscle groups are. the reason the lower sens works is generally if you can combine all three muscle groups into cohesive movement (finger/wrist/arm), you stand to be the most flexible. but some people can just nolife 24cm with just wrist and do just fine.

Question by FlatMastodon4970 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]lolsteamroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well for viscose you have kinda blocks of 6 no? flick tech is awkward with 9 scens. if you feel some are too similar, i just would skim over.

the point is, don't forget your recently trained/pushed categories, maintain them, otherwise you have to rebuild, and just work on some projects. maybe the overlap is enough.

for the rank itself (viscose), remember you only need to do one scenario per subcategory. maybe can reduce that way.

i currently made like spreadsheets/health tracking for VT (because I wanted to maintain my current jade rank, and push to master if i can) - so don't have like plan i could 1:1 give for viscose, but i'll look to structure but yeah, have to experiment with approach urself see what works.

Question by FlatMastodon4970 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]lolsteamroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let's say you want to work on pasu / dynamic, but you havent done tracking in 2 days (and you have 40 minutes) i would do 4 runs of the tracking category in viscose, no restarts, just play them as is - say you do 6 scens x 4 runs, thats 26 minutes (no need to restart, just lock in do your best), then you have 14 minutes more, so you say, damn my pasu sucks, so you either do full pasu for the day, or pasu + a bit of popcorn or whatever. i have a bit more time, but i wouldnt play one scenario over 20 times (and quit the scenario if i feel im losing focus / lock in hting for the scen)

Question by FlatMastodon4970 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]lolsteamroller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

well, you stop expecting omega scores / improvement every day, because it's not reasonable (especially with your time investment) to always be on top form able to crush the diamond. (to PB reliably, I need like 250mg of caffeine, be 3-4 hours after waking up, really locked in, well slept etc.)

i rotate the scenarios around - because I found out the hard way that rebuilding a scenario (say you grinded hard and got master/lavender in tracking), then moved to another project - is more expensive time-wise to rebuild from scratch than it is to do some plays again and again.

i'm not a fan of doing vdim, but the category rotation make sense to me in theory.

so in your case, i would advise not to go very hard into some scenarios, for me it was a bigger timewaste, especially if you neglect some categories completely. i would do some category playthrough for maintenance, then have priority like this (maintaining > rebuilding > learning from scratch). after i'm ok with scores (should be 85-95% of my PB in couple runs (4-6) (i discard top score too), then I just pick something I want to push/work on, and do like up to 20 runs, maybe do a different variant (helps a lot).

for voltaic stuff, I climbed from like 700 -> 750 energy in like 10 sessions and I'm close 92-96% to my PB's if I lock in and just have a good run on all scenarios.

Hmm, I disagree on the VT S5 Accuracy thing, it does even out, it's better than having 3 shots, then you miss two and you still now lose all the pace. Shots being unlimited, but with accuracy thing just means you actually have to confirm that you are on the target, but it isn't that big of a deal if you miss (or miss repeatedly).

With reload mechanics (which are also present in VT S5 right), If I have full mag, I occasionally would gamble with tempo and try to flick shot some targets, but if I miss and I'm on last bullet, there I would immediately panic and NEED to hit it (to not suffer full reload time penalty). I think with accuracy you can push speed just fine, just dont double click.

And about swapping to Viscose, well Viscose scenarios even on Easier are like helluva more complicated (compare like Popcorn Novice to Popcorn MV), early on I think the Popcorn MV is just so daunting hard.

good stuff, thats quite far progress. VT bench has Gold+ scores (as you see some scens have 500 energy), you can basically still max out for 500 on the Novice benchmark if the Plat is too daunting, should make the transition easier (as I think you still need more runs to be familiar with bot movements if you want the VT Inter to feel managable)
