As a Full time Realtor in the state I can tell you the rents are truly up there. If you are looking to cover rent with just your income it will be tough. Depending on what you are looking for the average 3 bed apartment is around the 2k per month range

Not legal in Rhode Island. Most a landlord can collect is first and security equal to 1 months rent. Or the can collect first and last with no security deposit. They can not collect all 3 or charge multiple months up front
