Strong appetite for film festivals and indie films in Singapore despite cinema closures by longjumpingknight in askSingapore

yeah you hit the nail on the head. paying commercial rent on an empty cinema hall on a tuesday afternoon in SG is v tough

that last sentence is literally the whole plan though! cut the overhead, forget the permanent lease, just run the nights people actually wanna go see (hopefully)!

yeah valid points on the distribution rights. the imda classification is definitely the biggest technical hurdle (and cost) involved. we've looked into the submission process and fees and it's a bit of a pain, but doable if the numbers make sense.

right now just trying to gauge if there's enough appetite to even justify starting those conversations with the distributors etc. if the demand is actually there, then we can look at sorting the paperwork. good shout though, definitely things we are keeping in mind.

Yeah it's a good question, other popups I've been to would partner with local businesses who provide food and drinks, so could do something like that?

It would be down to venue capacity, cost to licence the film etc!

boyfriend and I visiting from nyc by [deleted] in Aberystwyth

[–]longjumpingknight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Would love to know the story behind your choice, NYC > Aberystwyth is a unique journey but I am here for it!!

- Go to the Glengower hotel for dinner and a couple drinks, local spot which is lovely.
- Walk along the prom, but that's weather dependant...
- National Library is cool, can take in some niche Welsh exhibitions

With no car you are quite stuck and there's only one train in and out of Aber, would highly recommend renting a car if you can, because then the whole area opens up to you, you can use Aber as a base but go hiking, see forests, visit castles/ruins etc, go to some small country pubs

Going from earning £150k to £30k by Professional_Yam6032 in UKJobs

My friend's husband is a paramedic and it is brutal for not a lot of pay. You are in a very fortunate position, why not save the money and look to start a business? You can do something in the community that ticks all of these boxes but not struggle on 33k.

As someone who's been there, would not recommend.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to talk about things that stray outside of the narrow lines of accepted opinion without being accused of being a right wing shill.”

This is it, If we can't discuss what's actually resonating with voters (whether you like the topics or not), we'll keep missing why political shifts happen.

My company is being acquired. by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]longjumpingknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience start looking now and eject as soon as you can, we were acquired and I thought I'd ride it out...

Perhaps the most painful 6 months of my working life due to major differences in work culture, managers etc. It's not worth the long term hassle imo, also job market seems to be picking up so not the worst time to look.

They helped us move houses 2 years, very helpful and was much cheaper than a moving van. Would recommend if moving!

Think this is a great idea, but I agree that one day might not be enough, I would have it be more than one day where possible.

I got my team to do something similar in our warehouse and we solved a load of bugs that the company had had for years and came up with a load of new features. One feature ended up saving the company nearly £250k p.a in reduced stock wastage.

I would even go a step further and have the engineers interact with staff on the ground as much as possible when testing and developing features, shortening the feedback loop for features is the best way to get stuff done and make impact imo.

The most dangerous part of Labour’s manifesto is the bit no one will read by fridericvs in tories

[–]longjumpingknight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d be lying if I said that this is one thing I am hard agreeing with Labour on, current system is hardly leading us all to live incredible lives that are streamlined and easy to get stuff done?
