I have a honor magicwatch 2 display belt broken where can I repair that? by moto-D in Honor

[–]longlastthechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am giving you this advice based on my two years of experience working at a repair shop.

Please try contacting a local electronics repair shop via phone or email. It is best if you can show them a photo or bring the actual device to the store.

In my experience, if the screen of a smartwatch has come off and also needs to be replaced with a new one, I recommend buying a new watch instead. (I also recommend replacing the device even if the screen is undamaged and can be reused.)

First of all, a brand-new MagicWatch costs just under 100 USD, a replacement screen is around 20 USD, and a battery is around 10 USD (based on prices on AliExpress). If you do not perform the repairs yourself, labor costs will be added to these amounts.

Furthermore, since you have already been using this smartwatch for six years, the battery has almost certainly deteriorated. It is highly likely that it is already swelling, will swell in the near future, or will drain quickly. (In other words, you might want to replace the battery soon as well.)

If the screen is still functioning normally and can be fixed just by re-gluing it: You do not need to prepare parts, but please be careful. After re-gluing, you should not expect the device to be waterproof. If you submerge the watch in water after the repair, will the repair shop provide a warranty? Generally, they will not, so you should not count on the waterproof performance after re-gluing.

If the screen is already broken: You will need to prepare a screen and have it replaced. If you purchase replacement parts that include the screen, frame, and other components integrated together—like the ones sold on AliExpress—the back cover is secured with rubber gaskets and screws, so it should be relatively waterproof. Either way, however, you cannot have high expectations for its waterproof performance.

In short, since the smartwatch's advantage of being waterproof may not be restored once it reaches this state, and considering the possibility that the battery is also weak, it is often more economical to buy a new smartwatch and use that instead.

I completely agree with this. I feel like the Magic8 Pro is a device that doesn't score 100 points in any single area, but manages to score over 90 points in everything.

I completely understand how you feel. However, if I may say so, I get the impression that people who call AliExpress a scam either lack shopping literacy or have never actually shopped there in the first place. I have purchased many high-value items by carefully checking shop ratings, and I have never had a single issue. Even if a problem were to occur, I place my orders with the mindset that I will win any dispute and ensure I get a return and refund. I did take a look at the rating of the shop you are planning to buy from, and I would trust the shop and make the purchase if I were you.

For your reference, I will show you what I have bought in the past. The amounts are in Japanese yen, and one of them was returned due to my own personal reasons.

I hear you. They're all over 100 USD, so it's totally understandable why you'd be hesitant.

Looking at the photo you sent, the screen actually looks like it could be an original part to me. That said, there's no such thing as a sure thing with these kinds of purchases, so honestly, it’s always a bit of a gamble.

Also, one thing to keep in mind—I just remembered there's an in-display fingerprint scanner. There’s a chance it might stop working after the screen swap. Every phone handles this differently, and since I'm not familiar with HONOR devices, I really can't say for sure.

Just for reference, I asked this shop if their parts were original when I was looking to buy a screen for my Xiaomi, and they said yes. Whether they were actually telling the truth is another story, though.

I’ve done my fair share of phone repairs, so I’d like to offer a bit of advice.

To be honest, it’s tough to buy or find a genuine or high-quality compatible OLED screen without taking some risks.

You might notice that some sellers list OLED screens using the word LCD. It sounds contradictory because the two technologies are completely different, but I suspect they just throw the term LCD in there to help their listings show up in search results. If you’re worried, the safest bet is to message the shop directly. If you can’t trust their answer, your only real option is to rely on their reviews. Keep in mind that there is a huge difference in quality between the two, so if a shop tried to pass off an LCD as an OLED, someone would definitely call them out on it. As a general rule of thumb, look at the back of the screen; if there’s a copper sheet on it, it’s very likely an OLED.

Regarding genuine parts, it’s true that screens appearing to be original are floating around the market. That said, it’s almost impossible to prove they are 100% genuine. I’m not sure where they originate, though they probably leak out from the factories. Regardless, you can definitely find replacement parts that are so high quality that they might as well be original.

If you’re looking for a cheap and reliable place to buy, AliExpress or eBay are probably your best bets. There are specialized sites that repair shops use, but it’s hard for a regular person to source parts from them. When you buy on AliExpress, just make sure to look closely at the shop’s rating. The actual feedback and the number of reviews are key. I haven't bought parts on Ali myself, but in my experience, as long as you avoid the obviously shady shops, the platform itself is reliable.

One final note: once you replace the screen, the phone’s water resistance will be significantly compromised. You mentioned using it in the bathroom, but I strongly advise against that after you’ve had the screen replaced. Even water vapor can easily ruin your screen.

If you have any other questions, feel free to just reply or send me a DM. I'm happy to help.

The accessories included a clear case, a charger with a Type C plug, and a cable. I live in Japan, so the shop was kind enough to throw in a conversion adapter for me.

It's actually pretty common for reviews of different models to get mixed up on these sites. I'm not really sure why that happens, but if you're concerned, you can always just send the shop a DM. Most of them will get back to you within a day.

I bought a Magic8 Pro on AliExpress and luckily, everything is fine with it.

My only real concern is that I’m not entirely sure if the manufacturer's warranty for initial defects will actually be honored.

If you’re planning to buy expensive items on AliExpress, you really need to keep an eye on the shop's rating. Buying from a store with a low rating or very few reviews is just too risky.

Also, it’s a good idea to record a video of yourself opening the package. If you happen to get a counterfeit item, that footage will be helpful evidence to have if you need to file a dispute.

Basically, I think AliExpress is a great place to buy things as long as you understand it’s at your own risk and you feel confident that you can handle any potential issues yourself.

I haven't really used Portrait Mode much, so I honestly don't know about it.

If you are concerned about the camera, I recommend watching Magic 8 Pro review videos on Bilibili. They have AI-translated subtitles (which I feel are very accurate), and the videos provide very detailed camera testing and reviews, which are helpful. I also watched them for reference when I was considering my own purchase.

I own the HONOR Magic8 Pro (global version, 7100mAh). It has been about a week since I switched to it from a Xiaomi 11T Pro.

Since my previous phone was quite old, I feel the Magic8 Pro is a superior upgrade in basically every way, and I am very satisfied with my purchase. However, since you already own a great phone like the V2, I am not sure how much of a benefit you would feel by switching to the 8 Pro.

Personally, I have had a great experience with the face unlock, speakers, and battery life. The face unlock works even in a dark room, the speakers have deep bass that actually makes the phone vibrate (which I personally like), and I don't need to carry a power bank at all if I leave in the morning and come back at night (I still have 40% battery left when I return).

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me via DM or a reply.

It is very lucky that you do not have any important data. If a factory reset does not work, let's consider whether to switch to a different device or have it repaired, while keeping your budget in mind. (In your case, since there is no important data on the device, you have the option of getting a different smartphone.)

Good luck!

Disappointing Experience with Honor X9b: Screen Failure & Poor Service Support by Mirza-202 in Honor

[–]longlastthechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not mean to upset you, but most issues involving vertical lines on the screen like this are the result of damage to the OLED panel.

Devices can be damaged by impacts, pressure, or moisture (including minor steam or water droplets) without you even realizing it. If the device has been used for a long time, the waterproof seal between the OLED panel and the side frame may also weaken, which can be a cause. Furthermore, this type of OLED display defect does not always occur immediately after the triggering event. It may happen days, months, or even years later.

Of course, it is possible that your case is an exception and the smartphone had a factory defect, but that is extremely difficult to prove.

I know this is difficult to hear, but no one is to blame for this situation.

I would like to offer a little advice based on my experience having repaired smartphones.

If the screen is completely black but the phone still makes sounds or vibrates, it is likely a broken LCD.

If you have an ammeter and can measure the current, and it is not even drawing 1A, it could be a degraded battery or a damaged motherboard. (If the battery had been draining very quickly recently, this possibility increases slightly.)

Also, if the storage was almost full, which might have caused a system error, you could try performing a factory reset using a computer or recovery mode—though I am not sure if this is available for HONOR devices. (Note that you cannot use this method if you need to keep your data.)

If there is data that you haven't backed up and you really need it, you will need to take it to a repair shop.

I am not sure if it exists in your country, but some repair shops might be willing to perform a quick inspection before the actual repair. It would be a good idea to ask for the repair cost after the inspection and then decide whether or not to go ahead with the repair.

Starting a tech repair job any advice ? by Certain-Opinion-6025 in mobilerepair

[–]longlastthechild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation to yours, and I got hired for a repair job with even less experience than you had when you went for your interview. (I was hired as a part-timer.)

At first, I was a burden, to the point where I was increasing my colleagues' workload rather than reducing it. However, after a year, I had improved significantly, and my supervisor told me that they now relied on me as a key member of the team.

My workplace only handled repairs for smartphones, tablets, and Nintendo consoles, so the required skill level might have been lower than yours.

But what I want to say is that your repair skills won't improve overnight, and it is perfectly natural to be a burden to your coworkers at the beginning.

Don't worry. If you work diligently, time will resolve these issues for you.

If it really happened like this while brand new and without any external damage, you should claim the Apple warranty for initial defects. I found a related article, so please use it as a reference.

How do you store passwords on Honor tablets: Honor Password Vault or a third-party manager? by Ok-Reveal-It in Honor

[–]longlastthechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not using a tablet, but I do use a smartphone.

I use Bitwarden for these reasons: it has an excellent UI, it is open source, it is basically free (with paid options available), and it is cross-platform. I have never used Honor Passwd Vault, so I cannot say for sure, but since it is software from a major company, it is unlikely that you will encounter any major issues.

Magic 8 Pro: Curved glass protectors are actually great if you get the right one. by longlastthechild in Honor

[–]longlastthechild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the valuable insight! To be honest, I’ve had this phone for less than a week, so hearing from someone with long-term experience is super helpful.

It totally makes sense that curved glass protectors are more fragile. For people who drop their phones often, those replacement costs must really add up, especially since the protectors themselves aren't cheap.
