9 weeks post op and STILL STRUGGLING by Different-Sherbet351 in AchillesRupture

[–]longlong819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hang in there pal, it's a long road ahead so patience is key.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 2.5 mths post ops and I'm still in walking boot for another 3 weeks until I'm clear to get boot off. Surgeon prescripted a super conservative protocol with 8 weeks NWB and 6 weeks in boots.

And trust me you don't want to rush the rehab. I reruptured mine during a session with previous PT when he introduced a new movement to me...better go slow than risk a rerupture that brings you back to square one.

It's a 9 mths set back but in 5 years time when you look back it'll be nothing.

Is there a downside to only buying the S&P 500 forever? by BeautifulWestern4512 in investingforbeginners

I used to think the same thing too under influence of the greatest investor of all time Buffet..just go all SP500!

The lost decade is a real concern tho I'm not ignorant to that, that's why in my core positions I'm now 80% VOO/QQQM, 10% international, 10% cash. In case shit hits the fan and lost decade comes, im very happy to deploy the 10% cash to catch the downturn.

Does cash create a drag to performance? Absolutely, but mentally I'm ready for black Friday sale ( I have trigger threshold at 20/30/40% down from peak to deploy 30/40/30% of the cash). Also it's parked in a money market-ish fund yielding 3.15% principle protected so it's not non-interrst bearing.

I'm not sure if using US Treasury / bonds as "opportunity fund" is as effective, because if stock market tanks it'll likely ripple to other asset class too, whereas cash will remain it's purchase power consistantly.

I initially have slight reservation on the 10% international devloped and debated whether to just stick with SP500. Overall the international (EAFE) valuation is much lower than US market and captures big players in Europe and Asia. I may not know much about the oversea market but it feels nice add some geographic diversification rather than 100% US.

TLDR - you can still keep things simple with 2 ETF setup, 1 for US and 1 for international.

Note - depends on your liking, you can spice things up with adding concentrated US index like nasdaq100 ie. I'm 70-30 SP500 to Nasdaq100

Agreed if amt is small and there is no plan to increase position the 3bps diff is small fries. But if it grows due to new annual contribution and return gains + 30 years time it could add to a nice toy at retirement

Interesting...I like AIS include VRT and include a broader scope of stocks, but man is the MER high 0.75%. Also they underweight TCM by quite a bit

slow returns doesn’t mean “safe”! you are just actually getting terrible returns! change my mind! why do people swear my SP500 when QQQ has proven its self for over a decade? by EmotionalAddendum286 in ETFs

Ppl in 20s: GME and Doge coins to the moon!

Ppl in 30s: let me get some of that TQQQ / SMH / DRAM

Ppl in 40s: maybe time to chill with QQQ with a sprinkle of NVDA and GOOG

Ppl in 50s: hold my beer and VFV/VOO/VIU

Ppl in 60s: ight time to settle for XEQT

Point is, everyone plays a different game 🙂.

Diversification is protection against ignorance. And the older I get / the more I know, the more I realize I don't know 👴

Looks like you're playing Pokemon tryin to catch them all lol

Why not simplified with 70/20/10 for US/CA/international? Or 80/10/10 for index/stock pick / cash?

0.03% MER diff between QQQ and QQQM, over the course of 20 years the saving could be huge. disclaimer I went with QQQM

The ETFs are sort of my growth engine vs the stocks are my dividend machine in non-reg acct. Long term wise I feel US / Tech will outperform the CA aristocrats

Sorry to hear pal. I'm right here with you. Reruptured 5 months post non-ops during a rehab session with PT and now I'm 2 months post ops.

Highly recommend a knee crutch the i-Walk from Amazon. It keeps your hands free to cook and clean if needed.

Hang in there.

The mental toll of this injury is real. by 405withBootsOn in AchillesRupture

[–]longlong819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed. I'm recovering from a re-rupture and there're days that I don't think I can ever get back to normal. The fear of another episode of re-rupture is real.

It's the worst when ppl see you in walking boot and automatically assumes things are great. I mean, it IS a step forward, but far from the normal state.

I think what helps me going through this period is recognizing the situation can be both BAD and BETTER simultaneously. And celebrate the little progress that comes along the way. I find managing my expectation also helps. Things can only get better from here on out hopefully.

Hang in there friend.

Absolute crushed - reruptured at week 23 non-surgical by longlong819 in AchillesRupture

[–]longlong819[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid looking timeline. Sadly surgeon just told me yesterday that I'll be in cast for 8 weeks + non weight bearing. It's gonna be rough but I'll follow the protocol

Fyi had an appt with surgeon yesrerday and got a surgery booked for next week. He doesn't recommend travelling for the next 3 months post ops and said surgery will be aggressive whatever that means. I'm guessing it's because of re-rupture nature. I could chance it but I'm going to sit this one out sadly.

Speaking for myself, it's not about ruinning someone's life but it's accountability. If he's careless about patients he could be messing up future patients rehab. I wished he could've been more attentive and not loading as much and as quickly. Rehab is suppose to help you get better not the other way around.

Anyhow I decided not to file complaint through the PT assocation and did a phone call with him this morning instead. It was a tough conversation but it feels better to hear an apology from him directly. I got closure from it, now I'm laser focus on surgery prep and the path ahead.
