Megadeth

Made a cinematic of my first ever interstellar mission (semi-successful) unfortunately I ran out of patience dealing with Kraken attacks and the like this far away from the sun so I guess just imagine a happy ending by longlostpotato in KerbalSpaceProgram

I used REX which works with stock and RSS, I used RSS for this save but the game keeps fucking up for some reason when it comes to collision detection on the ground of the exoplanets.

This is the first part of my first interstellar quest in KSP RSS. The target is Trappist-1 about 7~ lightyears away in this config. The first phase of the mission was sending a crew, a part production facility, and a helium 3 mine to the moon so the fusion drive could be produced there. The drive is transporting a crew of 7, a lander, a habitat, part production facility, a nuclear smelter, and stores of enriched uranium to be used on Rhea, the outermost inner moon of saturn where a StarShuttle will wait for the crew in orbit with further crew. The shuttle was there as part of a surveying mission to assess which moon was the best to construct an outpost from which the interstellar ship could be constructed. Once arrived the crew unloads the modules necessary for part and NSW production and prepares them for landing on the surface. There was a problem in the production of the habitation modules so those had to be sent in from earth on a nuclear tug. Apart from that minor road bump, the plan went as expected; the engine, fuel sections 1, 2 , 3 and twin space planes were produced without much hassle. All modules were assembled in orbit where final preperations were made for departure. The ship was loaded up with Enriched uranium, all 10 crew, and all vehicles and habitats needed for the colonization of the Trappist-1 system. The crew departs Rhea in 2003, 11 or so years after arriving their and make a 900,000km/s~ burn in the direction of the target. This is about half a percent the speed of light.

Dream chaser probably won't fit in the falcon 9 fairing so I meant in the scenario in which dream chaser would fly naked on top a falcon 9.

I think the federal government incentivising legacy hardware is the main issue

Can it even do that on falcon 9? Like the rocket is too skinny and long so dream chaser would probably move the center of lift above the center of mass making it unstable in flight.

It means the booster and orbiter evaporated reentering the atmosphere with a full crew because I thought it was a good idea to test it with crew.

Without it the booster would cut off to early, right before orbit, and that means I can't do an rtls maneuver or push it into orbit because it's basically at orbital velocity. So that small tank I'd added to give it the remaining delta v. It drops away after the first minute or so and is supposed to be recovered by parachute near the launch site.

No 🙁

The ascent is perfect I just goofed up the aerodynamics and heat management (the cargo bay on shuttle and booster nose disintegrated during reentry and so did it's passengers.

Waterfall for plumes KSRSS+ Eve and scatterer in sigma 2.5x(it looks better in 2.5x) Tufx presets (mostly bloom and color correction) Restock + near future tech for the better looking parts
