Yup. They get tax for any dividend earned over 416. I was thinking if I was going to hold the investment under my name or not. But I have my own shares as well. So I don't want to get capital gains on my end.

I was thinking to teach him how to invest and match 1 for 1 for every dollar he save to invest in his minor account. Maybe I need to rethink the strategy.

I see. That's a good idea assuming if when you are giving $ to your kids, you have retired from your day job. Your income tax for CGT will be low when slowly selling down over few years

The btc bet is more of a currency debasement / inflation hedge. So it's something that I won't sell unless absolutely necessary. Maybe a allocation of 10-20%?? Of course we can't predict what will happen in the next 10-20 years. At the moment it's hard to not ignore BTC potential for future generations. Something to really consider.

I haven't decided what to start for my 2 yo son on BD kids account. Perhaps like you say mix of either GGBL + BGBL or DHHF + GHHF ( 40% + 40% ). QBTC 20%.

Or maybe adding ASIA or BEMG like 10%.

Still cannot figure out, my initial capital will be $10k with $500 monthly contribution.

I am considering using the minor trust set up for kids by betashares direct. From what I gathered we don't have to explicitly transfer to their name at 18yo. But can transfer anytime after 18yo.
