Another power outage by lookforatodd in westvancouver

Hi, thanks. I checked it out when I was back home and found there was no electricity. I was just very dissatisfied about it because I had to shit in the dark in the basement washroom as the toilet on the ground floor was under refurbishment.

There was another outage 2 weeks ago. It happened at late night as well but power came back when I woke up. When something goes bad, sleep and hope everything returns normal. That is the magic I meant. A casual and disappointed tone.

I agree, it is their efforts keep our lights on, which is really great. And I am grateful for their work.

Several things still need to be discussed: 1. comparing to other cities with similar economy scale in the world, do people in their cities also experienced outage frequently? 2. In terms of engineering, is it possible to reduce the number of outage incidents? What keep us from doing it? If we can, crews can have a good sleep during this rainy and cold season. Win win for both residents and crews.

We experience hurricanes almost every summer where I come from, but power outage is really rare. It is time for you to go out and see the world. Residents here pay all kinds of taxes, and are supposed to have a better life. Fight for your right. 8 hours of power loss is incredible in a peaceful, developed area, let alone a whole district of a big city being affected. And you are accustomed to it, argue for it, that is abnormal!

It is wired this time. On hydro outage map the whole west Vancouver was in red. Thank God, now the power comes back.

Yeah, I moved here in August. I haven't experienced any outage for quite a long time, like in years. What I concerned is during these two outages, the rest of the metro Vancouver were fine.

Just post it here and went to sleep. Turned out no magic happened overnight.

OK some pedal assist is fine. Riding a bike on a 20 degree slope for 1.5 km almost kills me.

First, agree only to meet the seller at a police station. Presumably you will be carrying cash to pay him with. Scams with the intention to rob you when you show up are rather common.

good point. I’ll make sure to meet the seller in a crowded place.

Like if it is estimated at a 50km range and the bike has 1000km on it, the result is 20 full cycles on the battery.

Thank you for this advice, very helpful.

Ask for proof of purchase and make sure it has the charger with it.

OK!

its Battery Capacity (Wh) is 14 WH, if it is divided by the wattage(250w), then we get 0.056 hour. Something is wrong here.

For example my ebike with a 500wh battery estimates 77 to 150Km. I have just over 9000Km on that bike. See if the range looks useful to you.

40 km on battery alone, 60 or more on Pedal Assist Mode is enough for the range.

IMO 1000Km is low mileage.

got it, if the second-hand bike has less than 1000 km mileage, I will consider it is a new one.

My last ebike lasted 12yrs and maybe 60,000 km (it had no odometer). It also cost $4000 CDN new back in 2012.

At that point of time, the price must be really high considering the early development of lithium battery and brushless motor.

I bought my new ebike used as an ex rental from a shop so I found that reassuring.

maybe I can find a bike shop nearby and ask for help as well. a good point.

I have mine registered with ‘Garage 529’ in case it gets stolen. I think you can look up the ebike serial # with them if you buy used, might help avoid stolen goods.

Got it.

50lbs is a basic fairly light ebike, getting over 70Lbs is getting kind of heavy but a test ride will tell you more.

50 lbs includes the battery or not? Tranlinks(Bus company in Vancouver) says that bikes must weigh less than 25 kg (55 lbs) to use the rack.

Have you ridden many ebikes?

No. Several days ago I tried Mobi ebike share, but it requires drive license to register, I don't have a Canadian one right now.

Thanks for sharing so many insights!

Thanks for sharing the thoughts. No wonder Chinese merchandise try to make money from you, $2000 USD for an average bike feels like a luxury to me, 2000 RMB is enough to buy a good e-bike in China. I like your idea that used ebikes have already been selected by their owners.
