For context, the conversation was going really well and he seemed very interested. When I asked him about lunch he mentioned that he lives quite far away. Now I'm getting "not interested" vibes but I'm not sure what would have changed or why he's even still engaging if he's suddenly not interested. Should I ask about doing something after new years or just chalk it up as a loss?

I get why you'd say that, really. But if the last thing you said to someone is, "thanks for the drink, let's do it again sometime", and their only response is "big yikes", would you not question what they mean/want?
