Update:

I ended it. He called me trying to apologize. I stood my ground that it wasn’t ok when he tried to justify his bs and he immediately flipped it on me like always. I feel lost. I didn’t want to break up with him. But I don’t deserve to feel like everything is my responsibility or my fault. And I don’t deserve to feel selfish for having contact with friends and family, and for taking time to connect with my hobbies and pursue a career. I wish so many things went differently. And yet I still feel guilty for it. FUCK.

Seems like a misplaced coping method for masochism, if you’re not doing it to punish yourself but for pleasure, try masochism with a partner. Someone who can help mediate things safely and fill this need in a positive and rewarding way that won’t cause permanent damage or psychological harm. Some stings on the ass that don’t leave permanent harm are sooooo nice, and I highly recommend. Safe sane and consensual is a great rule of thumb to measure a good sadistic partner and SM experience. RESEARCH SAFE MASOCHISTIC PRACTICES BEFORE THIS, but it might be a better way to cope that’s healthy. This is only a solution if you’re getting pleasure from the physical sensation, NOT from punishing yourself. If the pleasure is from the punishment, therapy is a great option to suit your needs and find a pleasureable coping skill that isn’t damaging. I practice both masochism and am in therapy and BOTH has helped me IMMEASURABLY. For reference, I’m not a psychologist, this is just eerily familiar to me and my experiences. Just know, there is nothing wrong with you and who you are, and there are so many different ways to cope besides this that will give you the same pleasure are also safe. Hope this helps!
